The hub is an essential component that connects the wheel and brake rotor to the spindle, and allows the wheel to rotate with little friction. Hence, the part must be held to tight tolerances, while being able to survive loads applied to it. Loads from the ground are transferred through the wheel’s contact patch up to the spindle and the hub. Bump loads result in a vertical force, the brake loads result in a torsional load about the spindle axis, and the side load results in a torsional load perpendicular to the spindle axis.
