Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Efforts have shifted towards working on the analysis of timing of the system. The reason for this is that regardless of the release mechanism, the timing mechanism is separate and will have to be done; the release mechanism can be designed around the timing mechanism.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Met with Eric for a better understand of lobster cages.
Brought home a lobster cage for measurements.
Formula for timing is as followed:
K=12(bph3600)2h(OD2)4
K is spring constant (aka rate, in torque/angle of rotation or Nm/rad)
p is density of material
h is height of cylinder
OD is outer diameter of solid cylinder
bph is beats per hour
Opted to increase period to solve our gear ratio problem; smaller amounts of beats per minute means a much more doable gear train.
