Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Goal and achievements of Week 8:
Monday: acrylic pieces cut out, second draft of report started
Tuesday: prototype fabrication (encoder, slider, display)
Wednesday: prototype calibration, adjustments, sponsor meeting @4pm
Thursday: hardware test with Professor Delson
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Establishment of physical prototype
Final design adjustments
Fabrication and 3D printing done for both ultrasonic and IR design
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finish the website and report
Begin working on the final prototype - 3D printing order must be put in
Last adjustments of design and CAD/SolidWork models
Film the video for presentation (IR)
Decisions to be made:
Different material options (3D print, lighter material?)
Validate sensor data
Redesign orbital mount
Possibility for crank handle
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Eye corners of current device (soft fillet may be in need)
Head strap or chin strap idea - explore options!
Email the report on Friday to sponsors
Set screw on the moving reference frame to add accuracy
Have LED screen face the investigator
Smaller LED
Linear slider potentiometer
3D print the reference frame (smooth out)
Sunday @10am sponsor meeting at work space (May 26)
Prepare the validation of sensor data
LED light for tracking
Email the sponsors about the final presentation time / schedule ***
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
10th Week Presentation: Schedule for the week after Dr. Korn comes back
Thursday at 11am during final exam week for posters
Prototype: need preload, spring, beveled washer as compact spring
Purchase a rack, gear, o-ring?
Encoder v. Linear potentiometer: temperature sensitivity?
Caliper: having to close the device up for calibration
Magnetic strip, linear magnetic encoder
Absolute encoder is preferable
Drive wheels
Build a strain relief on power cable for sensor
Tracking light: both top/bottom with 2 dots for vertical check
2 colored LED when passing the maximum value on infrared mechanism
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
N/A
Risks and Areas of Concern
Overall accuracy
Possible error resulting from slider fabrication
Calibration must be completed
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Budget sheet updated
Same as last week
Progress on Report and Webpage
Second draft of report and webpage due Friday
Google doc in progress with new additions and explanations
