Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Analyzed three seperate recording of 8 day old mice, 12 day old mice, and two male mice together. Result: No vocalizations, only background noise.
Revised the Motion sensors VI in order to count and timestamp the entering and leaving of mice for each tunnel on the y-maze.
Want to test sensors before the end of the week.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Completed the fabrication of y-maze.
Analyzed the recording of mother mouse and pup
Completed the motion sensor VI.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Analyze the recording from the microphone from outside and underneath the y-maze using ultrasonic signal emitted from headphone.(Sam/Sonya)
Testing motion sensing LabView VI with the sensors (Sam/Phong)
Physical integration and mounting of sensors to mazes (Caren/Sonya)
Wiring of sensors to DAQ cards (Sam/Phong)

Complete addition of sensors and sensor program: In progress
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
All comments from Week 8 presentation
Good progress in: getting data from mice, identifying source of noise, and investigation of frequency response
Presentation lacked quantitative data in numerous places: Addressed
Y-maze and sensor presentation were not organized clearly: Addressed

Good job: Kevin Chau
Were there other options that acrylic: Thomas Tran
Risks and Areas of Concern
Non-uniform microphone frequency response
Ability to detect mouse signals from farthest points in the maze
Ability of IR sensors to function through 0.25 inch acrylic
Having enough time to integrate sensors once they are received
There is a possibility of error using headphone as ultrasonic emitter since the headphone can caused the inconsistencies and exaggerated reduction in response for upper frequencies.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
The IR transmitters and phototransistors has yet to arrive.
Schedule
Test sensors through 0.25” acrylic – 6/1
Incorporate sensors (Hardware)- 6/1
Finalized testing- 6/2
Present a draft presentation to sponsor - 6/4
Final sponsor presentation - Final week
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
~300 Ultramic 250K
~24 Sensors
~250 Acrylic
Approximately 1850 remains
Progress on Report and Webpage
Each team member’s assigned portion of the report is complete, but all parts must be integrated and properly formatted
