This class will explore how to use the voice healthily and sustainably. Some of the skills covered in this class will be:
Learn to sing both major and minor scales
Learn basic knowledge of classical singing
Learn how to prepare musical selections to perform for peers
Practice properly warming up for vocal performance
Demonstrate recital etiquette
Learn methods for controlling your nerves for a performance.
This is a group class geared toward students interested in performing as a soloist in a choir, preparing for UIL solo and ensemble auditions, auditioning for theatrical productions with San Angelo Broadway Academy, Be Theater, Angelo Civic Theater, and Angelo State University Theater. [Starts 8/22. No Class 11/28. Ends 12/12. There is no group performance associated with this class. Students can elect to prepare a solo for one of the spring recitals!]

Participants in this program receive a monthly stipend. Participate in the total music program of the parish in a manner that enhances the spirit of worship, assists the congregation in praising and serving God, and strengthens our shared commitment to excellence in church music.
Specific Responsibilities:
Attend all regularly scheduled parish choir activities, including but not limited to, Wednesday evening rehearsals, Sunday morning warm-up and 10:30am service, and other services and performances as scheduled by the Choirmaster.
Fully participate in all events and presentations of the Parish Choir with an intentional attitude and character of leadership by:
Having exceptionally positive habits of communication, attendance, and punctuality.
Singing with a fully supported and healthy vocal tone which maximizes and enhances our ensemble's dynamic range, expressivity, diction, blend, and balance.
Preparing all music in advance of rehearsals, services, and performances.
Maintaining and modeling for other parish choir members excellent posture, attitude, and etiquette in rehearsals and worship services.

This is an ongoing Free Ministry meeting ONCE a week on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30PM, beginning on August 21.
This ensemble is for students and adults ages 15 and older who would like to participate in a handbell choir. No experience is required! A handbell choir performs music on a set of handchimes and bells tuned to a chromatic scale. An entire choir is itself a single instrument, with a musician responsible for only one or a few select notes that, when played together with other musicians, becomes a rich melody. [Starts 8/21. The handbell choir will play music during an outdoor service at 10:30am on Sunday, October 6th. NO CLASS on 11/27 (Thanksgiving Holiday Week). The choir will also perform during the month of December based on participant availability to share wonderful holiday music with the parish and the San Angelo community.]

This is a Fee-Based [$40] semester-long class meeting TWICE a week this year beginning on August 16 with a Parent Meeting at 10am - Tarpley Music will have a representative at this meeting to help answer all your band instrument rent-to-own related questions! Students will need a BLACK 1" three-ring binder and their instrument of choice. All students will also need a copy of the Essential Elements Book 2 for their specific instrument which can be purchased at Tarpley. All other music will be provided.
Each instrument family will meet for 55 minutes every Wednesday for "sectionals" beginning on 8/21- this is where you will get individualized help preparing your specific part for the band. The full Concert Band will rehearse every Thursday from 1:45-3PM beginning on 8/22. See more details about your section below. PARTICIPATION IN BOTH SECTIONALS AND GROUP REHEARSALS IS REQUIRED. STUDENTS SHOULD ALSO COMMIT TO PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENT OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME TO MAXIMIZE GROWTH & PROGRESS! Band directors Lois Droegemeier and Lamont Allen are co-teaching this year and will work with beginner and intermediate level students ages 11+ playing woodwind and brass instruments in a concert band setting. Concert band is for returning students or students transferring from another band program with at least one school year on their instrument. Some instruments are available to borrow on a first come first served basis from our Instrument Library. FEE-BASED ENSEMBLE $120/SEMESTER. Additionally, students will need a BLACK 1" three-ring binder and their instrument of choice [Alto, Soprano, Tenor, or Baritone Saxophone]. Sheet music will be provided. Anticipated start for rehearsals the week following Labor Day, 9/2/24.
Members must audition with Lamont Allen for placement. Once choir members are confirmed the teacher will confirm a day and time to meet. Members will be expected to attend at least 1 performance during the semester. There will be at least 6 rehearsals including reading sessions to choose music and 2 scheduled performances during the semester. Rehearsal schedules will be flexible based on students enrolled. Students will be expected to work on learning saxophone choir music independently. Saxophone choir rehearsals will be for putting music together as an ensemble - not for learning the music for the first time. Students who join this group will need to have a habit of practicing on their own. The saxophone choir ensembles could be a variation of saxophone duets/trios/quartets/quintets/etc. These ensembles will be performing a variety of musical repertoire including but not limited to classical chamber music, jazz and pop music genres. The types of groups will depend on the number of students registered, available instrumentation, and student musical interests. Songs featuring common chords such as G, C, D, A, Em, and F will be introduced. This is a wonderful introductory session for anyone who wants to sing and/or play the guitar. Students can graduate to the guitar circle where students learn to sing and play songs together as a group! Students who practice and progress faster than others can be moved to the more advanced circle at the teacher's discretion. Students bring their own guitar. [Starts 8/21. No Class 11/27. Ends 12/11. This class is designed for students who can already play common chords such as G, C, D, A, Em, and F. In this class, students use foundational techniques and beginner chord progressions to sing and play songs together as a group! New songs will be introduced each week (a mixture of oldies, country, folk, rock, praise, and contemporary age-appropriate music) together with strumming fingerpicking patterns for each song. This is a Fee-Based $140.00 semester-long class meeting once a week for 55 minutes every Wednesday from 10-10:55AM, from August 21 through December 11th (16 weeks of instruction). Percussion teacher Jimmy Shanks works with returning students in a small group setting (5-6 participants), continuing their development from last school year or summer percussion class! Mr. Shanks teaches beyond the basics techniques for various percussion instruments, note variations and general music theory, rhythm development and repetition, and lays the foundation for playing in an ensemble. Homeschool art classes meet once a week for an hour during the 15 week semester. If the class appears on two different days and has the same title on the calendar it is a repeat of the course material- do NOT sign up for two art classes with the same name. Students pay a non-refundable administrative fee for EACH class they enroll in ($40 per student) class materials are FREE thanks to a generous grant from the Mary Ellen Kent Bunyard Foundation and the Krep's Education Trust. These classes are taught by Art Educators Savanna Logsdon Floyd, Zoe Flores, with substitutes Suzanne Horner and Karyn Kuniyuki. Some projects will take multiple class sessions to complete so please plan to attend every week. If there is a waiting list for the class, 3 absences will result in the student being dropped from the class for the remainder of the semester. Students will learn how to bring static images to life with a variety of experimental stop motion techniques including white board animation, claymation, articulated puppetry and more! There are many ways we can bring movement to the world around us, and this class will explore them all! This class is taught by Savannah Logsdon Floyd. Students will learn to work as a team, choosing classic stories to adapt into their own illustrated works of art. Students will explore different mediums including pastels, paint, and collage as they bring their favorite stories to life. This class is perfect for students who love to draw! Learn various skills and techniques you can use for drawing, painting, sculpture, weaving and so much more while making different projects every week. This is an 8-week class with a second 8-week session planned for October 15-December 10. [Start 8/20. End 10/8.]
[Students of all ages are accompanied by at least one adult, projects designed for ages 5+. Younger children will need adult assistance.]

This hands-on course introduces students to the basic functions and coding for each motor and sensor in an EV3 kit, including on-brick programming and online software. Coding involves math (decimals, fractions, distance), physics, multi-step problem solving, and critical thinking! Students hone their skills during weekly challenges and group activities. Course is required for students brand new to LEGO EV3 building & coding. This class is co-taught by Karyn Kuniyuki and Andrew Gutierrez. [Starts 8/21. No Class 11/27. Ends 12/11.]

Fee-Based $150/year: The fall competition season will follow the Region 15 Arena Challenge and culminate in our December 6th Invitational at Emmanuel and the Annual Region 15 Competition in January at the coliseum. This class meets every Wednesday for 2 hours from 10:00-11:55AM. This opportunity is not available to join mid-year. Each school year TCEA proposes a new "Arena" contest. Robots are scored by judges according to specific requirements and tasks completed. Each team participates in 2 different contests held through the school year based on the same challenge. Teams must be sponsored by a TCEA member to participate in state-wide competitions. Teams form in September and work independently to build the robot base during the fall semester. A (2) hour Lego Lab meets every week for competitors to work together with their teams in preparation for competition. [Starts 8/21. No class 11/27. Emmanuel Invitational Tournament will be held on Friday, December 6. Region 15 Arena Competition usually held at the San Angelo Coliseum in January. Ends with a pizza and sorting party after the last contest, does not continue after the January contest.]
