Targeting High-Paying, Local Careers
The goal isn't just more jobs; it's better jobs. Work with the Economic Development department to will develop a Targeted Business Attraction Strategy through strategic city planning to bring in industries that offer a true living wage, a wage designed to support homeownership at today's market rates. This strategy will:
Reduce Commutes: Recruit industries that match our local workforce to cut down on out-of-city travel.
Affordability First: Focus on employers whose wages actually enable residents to afford the 25,000 new homes already approved.
Building a Skilled Workforce for Growth
Whether you’re looking for your first job, transitioning careers, or a parent re-entering the workforce, my goal is to empower your ability to provide for your family.
I will advocate to establish Workforce Development Programs through collaboration with schools, non-profits, and local employers that include:
Hands-on Training: Advocating for Trades & Tech Schools to bring in on-the-job training and apprenticeship initiatives for youth and adults.
Career Pathways: Launching programs for career readiness, return-to-work programs (returnships), and upskilling initiatives specifically designed to support displaced workers and returning caregivers.
Incentivizing Local Business & Startups
The local entrepreneurs who already invest here deserve our full support. We will lower the barriers for local startups and small businesses to expand their operations. This means supporting ordinance updates, grant programs, and permit streamlining that encourages innovation and fosters a diverse, resilient local economy.
