Tuesday, November 4, 2:30 - 5:00pm
The Halle Fix-It Hub had another lively and productive session this week, with a steady stream of projects that kept our three volunteer coaches busier than ever! Over the course of the afternoon, we completed four sewing repairs, tinkered with a vintage VCR in need of a new belt, helped the library’s events team bring their prize wheel back to life, and stabilized a wobbly keyboard stand. The room was full of collaboration, creativity, and the satisfying hum of tools and teamwork—so much so that there was barely time to snap a few photos!
This event also marked a new addition to the Fix-It Hub’s offerings: repair consultations. We chatted with members of the EMU community about home projects ranging from fire alarms and window repairs to ductwork and a squeaky washing machine that probably needs a new bearing. One student even received guidance on bicycle maintenance to get a well-loved bike road-ready again. The Fix-It Hub continues to grow as a space for hands-on problem-solving and skill-sharing—and as always, we welcome more repair coaches to join the fun and help our community keep things working!
This prize wheel took three of us to get apart, but teamwork is the name of the game at the Fix-It Hub.
We have tools galore just waiting for you projects!
As always, sewing skills are always in demand. Elizabeth has you covered though!

Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 2:30-5pm
The Halle Fix-It Hub kicked off its Fall 2025 series on Wednesday, October 8, with another energetic and collaborative repair session! A steady crowd of participants brought in a wide variety of items to mend, including a skirt in need of sewing, an umbrella that bravely defied superstition by opening indoors, a blender with a melted power cord, a laptop with a faulty screen, and a pair of well-loved shoes that got a second life.
Not every fix went perfectly—one laptop repair was paused when the issue proved more complex than expected, and a zipper replacement had to wait for a missing part—but even those attempts became great learning experiences. And in true Fix-It Hub spirit, a cat toy was repaired (and promptly broken) three times, proving that perseverance and laughter go hand in hand. It was a fun, hands-on event that captured the spirit of creativity, problem-solving, and community connection that makes the Fix-It Hub so special.

Wednesday, April 9 from 2:30-5pm
The final Halle Fix-It Hub event of the Winter semester wrapped up on a high note with a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere—and the most successful repairs of any session so far! Participants brought in a variety of items, from jewelry and clothing to a mini blender, and worked side-by-side with repair coaches to bring them back to life. Students learned some basic sewing skills, while others discovered the satisfaction of diagnosing and fixing everyday items. It was a productive and rewarding way to close out the semester.
We’re excited to announce that the Halle Fix-It Hub will return in September, following the summer break. We’re already making plans to build on the momentum from our first three events and continue fostering a culture of repair, sustainability, and skill-sharing within the EMU community. Stay tuned for more details in the fall!

The second Halle Fix-It Hub event was another great success, drawing a strong turnout and even sparking additional interest from attendees of a nearby Archives event. Participants engaged enthusiastically with repair coaches, collaborating to troubleshoot and restore their broken items. A notable highlight was the enthusiasm for sewing repairs, which has inspired us to incorporate a dedicated basic sewing skills section in our April event. We’re thrilled to see the Fix-It Hub growing into a vibrant space for hands-on learning, sustainability, and community connection!

The inaugural Halle Fix-It Hub was a great success, bringing together members of the EMU community for a hands-on, collaborative repair experience. Participants tackled ten repair projects, successfully restoring seven items while learning valuable troubleshooting and repair skills. The event fostered a lively and engaging atmosphere, with repair coaches and attendees working together to solve problems, share knowledge, and build a culture of sustainability. The energy in the room was contagious, highlighting the power of community-driven learning and resourcefulness. We look forward to continuing this momentum at the March Fix-It Hub event!
