If you've never seen Rita Pierson's Ted Talk, please take the time to watch. If you have seen it, take the time to watch it again. Whenever I need extra inspiration this is my go to comfort video. If you take away one thing from our work today... please let it be this.
Michael Rohd has some beautiful ideas about safe spaces and communities in this book. I really like his thoughts on facilitation, and the activities he includes to highlight his theories and philosophy.
His section on facilitation resonates with me. He notes that a good facilitator should be:
"energized and enthusiastic about the process"
"nonjudgmental"
"confident in your role as tone-setter"
So many more.
Highly recommend!
The work in this book really helped me create deeper connections with my students. Its such a helpful tool to help you and your students accomplish your goals. They also include a glossary of questions for when you're really stuck. Honestly a lifesaver!
My favorite thing about Boal's work is how approachable it is. Often in his exercises students may participate to their comfort level: outgoing students can really commit, while shier students can pull back until their ready. If you liked the slow motion race, there are so many more like it here!
