Week of September 27th: Found the sources for all the data and began going through each of the three major sources and acquiring the specific data points used in this study
October 17th-20th: Researched the four main geospatial techniques used and learned how to conduct the analyses. I would likely do all of the applicable analyses directly in ArcPro and R for the other tests
I need to go in and type all the data out in a CSV file. Since all the data is found in a PDF, I need to type all the points into a file that can be readily brought into both R and ArcPro
Bring the usable data into both R and ArcPro and conduct the analyses
The authors in this study classified India into 76 natural regions based on an agro-climatic scheme proposed by Bhat and Zavier (1999) following the Census of India study, so I would either need to get this shapefile from them or create this classification in ArcPro by hand
To fully complete all the analyses and produce all the outputs done in this paper, it would probably take me somewhere around 3-5 more months
I really enjoyed reading this study and thought that the authors did a great job in their explanation of why a study like this is important and what the results of the study show. One thing that makes replicating their methods difficult is that they do complex analyses that I have yet to learn. Although it was very fun to learn about these analyses (whether that be through online searches or discussion about them with three of my professors), they presented the biggest challenge in regard to replication.
Overall, I believe that the methods conducted in “Infant and Child Mortality in India in the Last Two Decades: A Geospatial Analysis” are both clear and replicable.
