My final project is an interpretation of what would happen if chess pieces came to life in a bouncy house brawl. The fight is between two chess knights who enter the bouncy house, each with their own dramatic entrance. The fight ends with a pawn crushing the black knight just before the first blow is completed.
Here is my storyboard:
Here is my final animation
A Few Principles of Animation I used
Pose to Pose: The twirling of the staff was difficult to keyframe using straight ahead, so I utilized pose to pose to ensure the staff ended in the correct position
Anticipation: Both the knights take a huge breath before the fight begins to build anticipation.
Follow through: There are multiple incidences of follow through, but the most noticeable one is when both knights' heads continue to dip down past the original starting point as they exhale
The most challenging aspect of this project was learning how to properly rig the knights so that the scaling, rotations, and translations worked properly for keyframing. Most of the tutorials I found online show human skeletons and I had to experiment with many different joint combinations.
Screenshots
The white knight enters the scene with a superhero landing holding staff behind its body. This is supposed to resemble the pose found in the Marvel superhero movies
These screenshots show a few pivotal moments of the fight:
This was the first project where I experimented with Arnold lights. I created a skydome light and pasted a stadium hdr texture I found from this website: http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
