The Idea

I modeled my animation off of the Super Mario 64 treasure chests. I liked the kind of retro aspect they have, plus I love the Mario franchise so why not?

I ended up making a hybrid of the two types of chests in the game. I like the outside of the underwater chests but I was more fond of the red, velvety inside of the chests in the garden (shown below).
