My idea was to take a scene from one of, if not the, worst movies of all time (Plan 9 from Outer Space), and make it interesting. I have watched the movie almost in its entirety. It is a hoot! Some parts are quite boring, however. I edited out a lot of needless dialog to keep the animation short and interesting, which created a lot of the work as I am not the best with Premiere. Thanks for your video, Adam! As a side note, don't worry, Plan 9 is in the public domain now. Here is a YouTube link to the movie, the part I used starts at 3:55:
If you didn't catch it, the space ship flew into the propeller. It is actually very small and gets pulverized, much like my bouncing ball animation.
The shots of the plane close up use the rule of thirds. I think it looks very nice. it is cinematic. A much better shot than the original plane in the movie!
Similar to the last section, the plane model looks very nice in my opinion. I modeled it in AutoCAD, a program I am more familiar with than Maya.
I added a motion blur affect to the close up shots of the propeller to enhance the animation. It makes it seem more natural, the way a propeller would really look.
The dialog at the beginning creates anticipation for what will happen next.
I ran into a problem where I had rendered out a part of the animation and fit it into premiere properly. I didn't realize that premiere doesn't make copies of files you give it. I rendered out a new animation on top of the old files, so that whole part got erased and I had to redo everything to generate the old animation that I had lost (I used the same camera). So that absolutely sucked. I also ended up running into weird issues with the clouds not showing up in the background. After that point things just started going downhill fast! It all turned out pretty okay, though. Here is my storyboard:
