Teddy Roosevelt

Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was an American President that was in office from 1901 - 1909. Under Roosevelt's leadership, the United States continued to expand and become more powerful through his foreign policy (1). Roosevelt helped to improve the U.S. military and improve foreign relationships to the countries benefit. During his presidency, the U.S. garnered more respect than they previously had.

U.S. Involvement In Other Nations

Using their power, the United States began getting involved in the politics and economics of other nations for their benefit. An example of this is when under President Woodrow Wilson, the U.S. "asked Congress for authority to use force against Mexico" (3) due to the Mexican Government being over thrown in a revolution. With the United States' help, Mexico was able to overthrow the dictatorship. The United States also intervened in many island nations that went on to become either a state or territory.

Monroe Doctrine

The Monroe Doctrine was a document that protected countries in the western hemisphere from the powerful nations in Europe that were looking to expand and colonize. The Monroe Doctrine allowed the United States to have more control on their side of the world without having to worry about interference from abroad (5). The Doctrine was put into affect while President Teddy Roosevelt was in office.

U.S. Immigration

The United States became a hotspot for immigrants towards the late 1800's until the early 1900's, accepting more than 25 million immigrants during this time (7). This influx of immigrants meant more workers in the United States economy and more diversity in the country, which coined the U.S. the nickname of a melting pot. Unfortunately, along with immigration came cultural disputes and racism towards minority communities.

Spanish American War

The Spanish American War occurred in 1898 and was won by the United States. This war and the United States victory showed that they were "eager to claim its place as a world power" (9). This victory showed the power that the United States possessed in the Western Hemisphere and how they can help other nations secure their independence from European countries.
