The Student Leadership Conference (SLC) to provide participants with the opportunity to be viewed from a different set of lenses—to be seen as valued contributors to the College and the community and to be acknowledged as having the capacity to “pay it forward.” Students are asked to contribute to the SLC by donating an inexpensive toiletry item or non-perishable food product. Collection bins will be placed throughout the SLC venue. These donations will be crucial to meeting our goal to exceed prior years’ Genieve Shelter collection totals and to support the charge of the PDCCC Food Bank Committee.
Moreover, S.T.E.P.S. and Great Expectations participants will be engaged in working collaboratively with other students, staff and faculty to promote, inventory, and deliver items throughout the life cycle of the toiletries and food bank campaigns. Moreover, through this service to others, students will be positioned to gain a sense of pride, self-worth and belonging that comes with showing empathy for others. These are some of the hard and soft skills, and attributes that will support students’ development and success within and beyond PDCCC.
Lastly, our 4th Annual Genieve Toiletries Collection Drive is scheduled for October 16 – December 16, 2018 which coincides with the October 12th date for the SLC. Also, given the need to address food insecurity particularly during high demand seasons such as holidays, the timing of the SLC presents an opportunity to support the PDCCC Food Bank Committee.
