Lab. Introduction

Dr. Yang’s research fields focus on three sectors: (1) Agricultural Economics; (2) Industrial Economics; (3) Consumer Economics. Dr. Yang’s lab concentrates in research method and statistics training. The analysis method mainly uses econometric approach for related research issues. The research issues link to three major sectors: (1) production sector (farmers, farmer association, cooperatives, farmer-Coop, and Agribusiness organizations/firms, etc.); (2) government, fundation, and market sector (management strategy and policy analysis), and (3) consumer and customer sector (end-user, vendors, retailors).

Research topics covers: research design, consumer behavior, information communication, food sensory, food safety, organic, local, fair trade, food bank, farmer market, community supported agriculture, food and agricultural education, food culture, traceability, halal labeling, QRcode, price forecasting, cost analysis, etc. For food sensory analysis, you may get the basic idea at below:

Dr. Yang grew up from a farm village in Pingtung county; especially, he had worked on a pig farm for more than 20 years since his childhood. Therefore, he is very familiar with the agriculture, livestock, farmer organization, wholesale and retailer markets in Taiwan. During his 10 years education and work experience in the U.S. for his PhD and Master, he had a chance to work with professors who worked on agricultural extension, consumer economics, and internation trade, so Dr. Yang's background has built up the domestic and global agricultural, livestock, and industrial aspects. Dr. Yang's lab had touched topics about traditional markets, organic, halal, fair trade, food safety, farmer association, traceability, production efficiency, CSA, greenhouse facility, food sensory, etc.; while currently his lab is working on topics related to egg price forecasting, hog supply forecasting, corn price forecasting, CSA and fresh food box, climate change, animal welfare, sustainability issue, etc. However, Dr. Yang's lab is welcome new idea topic and research for new challenges. You may send an email to Dr. Yang for discussion first.

No matter domestic or international students, Dr. Yang pushes students to work as a team to solve problem together. Team work is a very key point. Second, Dr. Yang pushes students to ask questions and provide their critical thoughts. Dr. Yang will ask you to set a goal for your Master, and then ask you: “How you are planning to do it?” Dr. Yang will not limit your opportunity but would like to provide the most resources to make you to achieve. The following key points are recommended by Dr. Yang:

1) Don't forget that you have right and chance to make choices;

2) You may not be success on everything, but DON'T waste your chance;

3) Any participation is investing yourself.

4) Ask yourself: Have I already discussed with Dr. Yang yet?
