PARTS OF SPEECH TIPS:
Think about the FUNCTION of the word within the context of the sentence:
Nouns NAME a person, place, thing or idea. Remember: articles (a, an, or the) help us locate nouns in a sentence. For example: teacher, school, pencil, knowledge.
Verbs show ACTION (mental or physical) in a sentence. Remember: we can identify verbs if you can put "to" in front of it. For example: learn, concentrate, excel.
Adjectives DESCRIBE people, places, things, or ideas (nouns) in a sentence.
Adverbs DESCRIBE ACTION in a sentence. Many adverbs end in -ly.
