By having the pups to get all of their playful energy out, it allows them to be more focused during training sessions.
This Saint Patrick's Day litter is Bridget's 4th litter and has just finished opening their eyes. There are 8 pups total, 5 boys and 3 girls.
Didn't plan on picking a favorite pup from the new litter... that didn't last for very long...
Day 2- training for everyone!!!
Started off the day taking care of the pups: changing the pee-pads, helping when Bridget was feeding them, along with playing/cuddling with them! By playing/cuddling them, it allows the pups to get more comfortable with humans/human touch.
I also got to help train Peach! We worked on the 5 core (sit, down, leave it, stay, watch me) along with come and place (example of place -> I point to the blue platform and say place = Peach getting onto the platform and sitting).
When training, we use both treats along with a clicker. We click the clicker every time the pup completes the command correctly, then give them a treat as their reward.
Later that day we went out into Walpole center, where I got to work with Rebel. Rebel is one of our older pups (about 1 1/2 years old) who also happens to be the Walpole Community Resource Dog. In Walpole center, we walked around to get the pups (and Rebel) used to all of the sounds and smells, along with stopping in the bank to say hello!
Day 3- new litter weigh in and lots of puppy training!
During this processes we look out for any people that seems to be the "runt" (or the smallest) of the litter. We keep track of this as a way to identify any health risks before they become a problem.
Duke getting ready for his turn to train! He is currently being trained on the 5 CORE along with starting scent work as he happened to be able to pick up the skill very easily.
Rosey is being trained for a recipient suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, and has been doing amazing during her training sessions!
Day 4- new litter care! (making sure their area is all clean, helping them start to learn how to drink water, and socialize them!)
Red Boy is still my favorite. (I swear I didn't intend on picking a favorite... it kinda just happened...)
The new litter are starting to pile on each other, showing how not only are they getting closer but also how they are becoming much more comfortable with each other! (though it is part of our job to make sure they aren't lying on each others faces, we know they love each other but they kind of need to breathe)

Not only are the pups starting to become more active and play, their personalities are also starting to shine through!
