Extracurricular Activities
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Many extracurricular activities are made available to all students. Please consult Brenda Hagan, Assistant Principal for additional information regarding activities or clubs.
Students who are interested in forming a club or organization should initiate the process with the Assistant Principal according to the following steps:
Complete the Club/Activity Proposal Form available on the Club Website.
Secure a faculty advisor.
Develop a list of committed participants.
Develop goals and objectives showing the educational value of the activity (refer to Medfield High School's Mission and Core Values).
Develop a schedule for meetings and consider the advisor’s availability.
ELIGIBILITY
All students who participate in extracurricular activities (athletics, drama, all clubs, student government, and student organizations) are subject to the following eligibility standards:
Students must pass six of the seven courses in which they are enrolled.
Eligibility is based on the marks from the previous term, with the exception of the fall when eligibility is based on the final course grades from the previous year.
Ineligibility takes effect the day report cards are issued, unless a waiver has been granted by the principal.
If ineligibility status is due to incomplete grades, students may become eligible as soon as pending incompletes are resolved.
Students who are ineligible may continue to attend practices and rehearsals, but may not compete in games or participate in performances or other competitions.
FUNDRAISING
All fundraising proposals must be approved by the administration prior to commencing.
Door-to-door fundraisers should be avoided by all student groups/organizations but may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
SCHOOL DANCES
Dances are held throughout the year and are sponsored by various classes, clubs, and organizations with the approval of the administration. School dances are in fact a school function- all school rules apply, including those pertaining to substance abuse. Any student found to be in possession of, or under the influence of alcohol/drugs will have parents/guardians contacted for immediate removal and will be considered for suspension and notification of the police.
Students must arrive within one hour of the announced start of the dance unless prior arrangements have been made with the Assistant Principal. Once a student leaves the dance, he/she will not be permitted to return.
Middle school students are not permitted at high school dances.
Students who wish to bring a guest (non-Medfield High School student) to a dance may do so by obtaining written permission from the Assistant Principal prior to the function. Guest approval is not guaranteed and may depend on the nature/intended audience of the dance. MHS students are responsible for the actions of their guests.
Dance attire should be in accordance with the school dress code. At the discretion of the administration, students with inappropriate clothing will be asked to change or leave the event. Appropriate dance is also expected.
CLASS DUES
Students at Medfield High School must pay class dues each academic year. The monies collected reduce the need for class-sponsored fundraisers and subsidize the expense associated with class events.
Each student will be assessed class dues of $20 per year payable by check to Medfield High School or via MySchoolBucks. If a student fails to meet the obligation, they will not be permitted to attend school-sponsored activities until the dues obligation has been fulfilled.
In the event that class dues present a monetary hardship to a family, the student should contact an Assistant Principal.
FEES FOR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students are expected to pay a $25 Activity Fee for participation in extracurricular activities/clubs per year (not including athletics). This annual fee covers membership in all clubs/activities and is used to offset costs associated with these groups/activities. Matters of monetary hardship should be directed to an Assistant Principal for extracurricular fees.
