Graduation Requirements

All students need 115 credits to graduate from Medfield High School. 


Students are expected to earn 35 credits yearly, keeping in mind that graduation course requirements (listed below) must be fulfilled. The recommended number of credits to remain on track for graduation includes:

Credits earned after: 9th grade - 27

10th grade - 55

11th grade - 84


Any student with a question regarding the number of credits he or she has earned should check with their guidance counselor.



REQUIREMENTS FOR A DIPLOMA


1.  Students must pass a minimum number of full year courses or their equivalents according to the chart listed below:


     Required Courses

English 20 credits

Social Studies 15 credits (includes 5.0 credits in US History)

Science 15 credits

Mathematics* 15 credits

World Languages 10 credits (of the same language at the high school level)

Wellness** 10 credits 

Visual, Fine & Applied Arts*** 5 credits


*Please note:  The Massachusetts State Colleges and Universities will require four years of Mathematics.


** Students are required to take 1 semester of the required grade level Wellness course each year.


*** Included in this category are any courses in the Visual Arts, Performing Arts or Business and Technology sections, as well as Culinary Arts, International Cuisine and Culture, Yearbook Design and Publishing, Creative Writing and Speech.


     Total credit requirements are: 115 credits


2.  Students must achieve a competency determination on the English/Language Arts, Mathematics and Science MCAS tests.
