From: Ed van der Bogert, MS Construction Management Department Head (retired)
Re: Patrick Kolanda
I was an instructor and Department Head of the Construction Management Department for over 20 years. I am currently the Chair of the Construction Management industry Advisory Board. I am knowledgeable about current conditions and challenges with respect to the Department's place as one of the only nationally accredited two-year Construction Management programs West of the Mississippi. I am pleased to recommend Patrick Kolanda for tenure.
Patrick began teaching for Edmonds Community College, as a part time instructor, after he completed the Associate of Technical Arts degree in Construction Management. He brings many talents to his full time faculty position, including a commitment to on-line and hybrid course delivery.
He has decades of experience in the construction industry as a skilled tradesman, estimator, and project manager. Patrick's commitment to teaching and learning is demonstrated in many ways. He has contributed significantly to keeping classes current with industry specific technology, means and methods as necessary to improve the quality of the certificate and degree programs. He has been a leader in helping part time faculty adapt to on-line and hybrid teaching methods.
Patrick has had opportunities to perform many of the duties of the Department Head, including work needed to maintain our national accreditation with the American Council for Construction Education. lt is important to note that one of ACCE's requirements is demonstrable succession planning. Without a doubt, Patrick is ready to step into the Department Head role when needed. I have taught many of the classes that Patrick now teaches. We have had frequent, in depth conversations about course content and delivery.
I have also had many opportunities to interact with students and discuss their impressions and experiences with the Department and with Patrick. He is well liked and respected. He is seen as a motivator and mentor as well as a content expert. I am comfortable with his philosophy regarding course material and course delivery and his performance on behalf of students and the Department. I am particularly impressed by Patrick's use of on-line and hybrid formats which benefit students who struggle to commute to our campus.
As Chair of the industry Advisory Board, I look forward to continued interactions with Patrick. Should you need any additional information, feel free to contact me directly.

Letter in Support of Patrick Kolanda’s tenure as a full-time Instructure at EDCC Construction Management.
I am pleased to write this letter in support of Patrick Kolanda EDCC full-time Professor and fellow member of the Construction Management Advisory Board. During his tenure, Mr. Kolanda has had to weather many changes to the staff and curriculum at EDCC. He has needed to answer the call to a well- respected Department Head retiring, a drop in enrollment rates and respond to necessary curriculum adjustments due to changes within the construction industries managing systems. These challenges have always been taken head on by him and the EDCC Construction Management program is stronger because of his input and guidance.
It is my perspective that Mr. Kolanda has always been a positive influence and forward thinker by nature. As an alumni of the program and IAB member I have witness these progressive traits support the programs growth in enrollment and content. After many discussions with current and past students, the consensus I have received is that Professor Kolanda is an engaging instructor that garners the attention and adoration of his students. To this day I have not heard a negative word concerning Mr. Kolanda and he has my vote of confidence. Professor Kolanda is an excellent choice to fulfill the role as department head when the position becomes available and will no doubt provide excellent leadership moving forward.
Respectfully,
Kenneth Joyce

To whom it may concern,
I have worked alongside Patrick Kolanda for the last five years in the Edmonds Community College Construction Management Program. Together we have integrated QuickEye Estimator into his classes as a delivery system and tool for estimating projects electronically.
Over this period, he has shown a very high level of quality, dedication and passion to the students, to give them a highest standard of quality to understand Construction Management. His vast experience in Construction and an Education degree has given him the ability to pass this on to his students. In working with Patrick, he has shown me that he is a valuable asset to the college and the program.
We at QuickEye thank Patrick and the College for allowing us to help improve the Construction Management program with our QuickEye System.
Sincerely,
Roger Nickell
