    1. To guide and cultivate students’ professional interests through mentorship, networking, and sharing experiences.
  2. Objectives
    1. Mentees
      1. Meet cool people who do interesting things.
      2. Expand your understanding of life as a civil engineering, including types of projects, daily tasks, skills necessary to succeed, etc.
      3. Learn about balancing professional and personal life.
      4. Develop interpersonal communication skills.
    2. Mentors
      1. Meet smart, motivated, and thoughtful students who want to learn from you.
      2. Inspire the next generation of civil engineers.
      3. Stay current and relevant with the present generation.
      4. Re-energize your own passion for your profession and helping people.
      5. Reflect on your own career and life.
  3. Expectations
    1. Meet approximately once per month for 1-2 hours through one academic year.
    2. Attend group mentor-mentee events approximately once per semester.
    3. Communicate openly and honestly. Maintain confidentiality.
  4. Resources
    1. Both mentees and mentors will be provide tips for making the mentee-mentor relationship a success.
  5. What does a mentor meeting look like?
    1. Talking over coffee or lunch.
    2. Inviting your mentee to the office to see the project you are working on.
    3. Inviting your mentee to a project meeting, a public meeting, a professional meeting, or seminar or conference.
    4. Shadowing a mentor for a half or full day.
    5. Inviting your mentor to a campus event, i.e., academic, social, athletic, or fine arts.
