MISSION
Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research hopes to spread awareness about brain tumors and pediatric brain cancer while fundraising money to support research across Arizona. SSBTR empowers members by providing opportunities to learn about current research, how to run a non-profit as well as pre-medical, and outreach opportunities.
Beneficiaries of funds raised by SSBTR are Phoenix Children's Hospital, Barrow Neurological Institute, National Brain Tumor Society, Translational Genomic Research Institute (TGen), and University of Arizona Medical Research.
ABOUT
SSBTR was started in 2010 in Scottsdale, AZ and is the largest student non-profit in Arizona. It has been at the U of A since 2016 and growing strong. We provide opportunities to watch a live brain surgery, take tours of brain tumor labs and hear from prominent speakers regarding research and medicine relating to tumors. We host an annual event on the UA mall every year called the "cure-a-thon" which is a walk-a-thon providing entertainment, music, food all while spreading awareness for brain tumors and raising money. Throughout the semester, we host speaker nights by professionals, mini fundraisers, game nights, medical panels, etc.
