We're putting on a Pathways conference!
In the spring you will participate in an intensive Orientation (online self-paced portion + 3 days of in person and field experiences), an E-Series focused on preparing you for the research ahead (time this takes students varies, but spaced out likely 20-30 hours), and will be matched + meet with your mentor while taking your first UROC course.
You will spend the summer working full-time with a faculty mentor on a research project in their field of study or area of interest. You are expected to commit a full-time effort to this endeavor and the activities listed below (no other courses can be taken or positions held):
Receive a stipend for research assistance mentioned above,
Attend two UROC-sponsored courses (these will provide 6 units of preparatory coursework) in which you will produce a written research report, present a research poster, and give an oral research presentation at a large-scale event at the end of the summer,
Attend and complete GRE preparation coursework and testing,
Attend 8 PLUS oriented learning events,
Additional funding support will be provided for a variety of needs, including but not necessarily limited to:
room and board (or the equivalent for off-campus housing),
commute/parking funding as well to enable you to be at the Tucson campus full-time in the summer,
purchase of statistical software package based on your project, and
support for research presentation (inc. printing, poster printing, and some support for conference travel if applicable and approved).
During this time you will be preparing your graduate applications (and possibly submitting them as well depending on deadlines). You will also:
Attend a UROC-sponsored 1 unit preparatory course focused specifically on applying to graduate school,
Attend 8 PLUS oriented learning events at 1.5 hours each, and
Continue your research work with your mentor (hopefully submitting for publication or presentation), for which you will receive a stipend. The expectation is 120 hours of commitment.
*Credit, audit, or no-credit options available. Alternative attendance options can be made available in extreme circumstances, however attendance in person in Tucson is preferable for the learning experience.
