CER
CER
In science, students are asked to support their thinking through CER's.
CER stands for Claim, Evidence, Reasoning.
Claim: One sentence answer to a question. It cannot start with "Yes" or "No." It also cannot include "I."
Evidence: Data used to support the claim. This can be from labs, readings, or class discussions. Students are asked to include at least 3 pieces of evidence to support their claim.
Reasoning: Connects the evidence and claim together. This tells why the evidence matters. Each piece of evidence MUST have a reasoning to support why it helps to answer the claim.
Students are able to use a graphic organizer, if they choose. There are 3 samples below. CER's are graded using a rubric. Below is a sample rubric. Each student has access to this rubric as they are writing their CER's in Classroom., so they can make sure they are including all required parts.
