Hi! Welcome to my class! I am excited to be your English teacher this year. We will have a great year. I will help you get ready for your state tests and prepare for your future. Before I worked at John Glenn High School, I graduated from Hofstra University with my Master's Degree and I graduated from Stony Brook University with my Undergraduate Degree in English Literature and a minor in Dance.
I live in Nassau County but grew up in Suffolk. I have two children, Ben and Ella. I am sure that you will see them at school events. I love my dog, Lily. I named her after a character in The Secret Life of Bees, one of my favorite novels. I love working at John Glenn. I grew up in a small community where my family knew everyone. It was a great opportunity to really know the teachers. They made me feel at home and I learned so much from them. John Glenn is a great place.
I studied dance for most of my life. I was a cheerleader in high school and I continued my dance education in New York City and at Stony Brook University. and I coach the Varsity dance team, Knightline. I also help run the Long Island Dance Team Association.
I also work alongside Mrs. Jensen and we co-advise our All-School Student Government.
Originally, I wanted to be a physical therapist. I changed my major and rediscovered my love for literature. Teaching English is truly the best! I love working with students with reading, writing and speaking. My favorite teaching moments begin with students who try to do things that they do not think that they can do. I hope that you find my class fun and interesting. I am so excited to meet you or see you again!
We will have a great year!
This website will give you information about our class. This will become a place where you will help you become organized and well-informed.
If you look under your class, you will find documents and a class calendar to keep you informed. Google Classroom will be a place where you will upload your assignments and communicate with me and your classmates. Please turn your notifications on!
Our English class will be a place where we will become better writers, readers and more importantly, better thinkers. We will work through a variety of literature to strengthen our analysis skills and writing skills. I hope this class will be a place of comfort during your day. We will work together to become stronger readers, writers and thinkers. I want you to be confident in your ability to communicate your thoughts.
At this time, the best way to communicate is by email. I will check my email frequently during the day. If you have any questions, I am here to help. My email is apeiliker@elwood.k12.ny.us. In your heading, please put your class name. It will help keep everything organized. If you email me after 4pm, I may not get back to you quickly. I will get back to you first thing in the morning.
