Tips from a JGHS Senior

Making the Most of This Year

By Lauren Hoolahan & Molly Miller

Hey everyone, in our last issue we spoke about some tips to help keep the student body at JGHS healthy in our current reality. These daunting and uncertain times are stressing our students out mentally. As seniors, we can only advise everyone to make the best out of a bad situation. It’s no secret that this year, and the school years to come, will be unlike any others. However, there are still ways in which we can all have some fun this year inside and outside of school.

#1 First and foremost, if you have not yet joined one of the virtual clubs running this year, there are so many that are open! Fashion Club, Cooking Club, International Club, Italian Club, Art Club, The Knight Times, and so many more are available to all students and are always welcoming new members! Clubs are a great way to meet new people and interact with friends, especially those in the other cohort. They are all virtual this year, so all you have to do is log on to the meet! If any club sounds interesting to you, all you have to do to join is find the google classroom code or remind code. There might be some of these codes written on posters on the wall or in teachers’ classrooms - keep an eye out! Some clubs are all about having fun, some do community service, and others require some extra work. Get out there and find something that is best suited for you!

#2 Secondly, watch out for school sports that are running. Winter track and basketball began this winter, and now many other sports are running as well. Don’t worry, you can throw shot put and not run...that’s what I, Lauren, do ;) Now that it's March, it's all about Fall sports - go out for the soccer, volleyball, tennis, or cross country team. All sports teams are a great way to get active while being safe. Again, sports are a great way to socialize with friends outside of school! Especially now with online school, it’s important to find ways to keep active.

#3 Make sure to stay up to date on all activities! The school is always working hard to bring us the best. Make sure to be checking your email constantly to stay up to date on all upcoming activities and events. Feel free to pick up a book at the library now that they are open or pitch in ideas at meetings to bring your ideas to the table. The school would love to hear your ideas on how to make this school year even better!

#4 Lastly, it is most important that you are happy and healthy. Your mental and physical health always comes first. Whatever you feel is best for you - that's what you should do.
