AP Studio Art: Drawing/2D design

Syllabus

AP Studio Art is intended for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art. AP course requirements are significantly more rigorous and students should demonstrate commitment and accomplishment while enrolled. It is recommended for the AP student to have previous training in art or be able to demonstrate through a portfolio an ability to create fine art. The AP Studio Art: Drawing/2D Design course strives for quality of production and experience in the investigation of drawing styles, techniques and reflection of historical influences in drawing. The course is designed as an intensive one-year program. This course is the infusion of new ideas and constructed around meaning and an enduring idea. Students will be working towards creating works of art for their AP Art portfolio to submit to the college board for review in May.

Through their exploration, students will come up with their concentration for their body of work for the year. – Works describing an in-depth exploration of a particular drawing concern……………12 (digitally recorded)


Portfolios will be reviewed quarterly; portfolio assessments will be conducted at the end of each semester. This provides an opportunity for reflection and is an exercise in critical thinking and judgment.

Expectations:

- Regardless of your concentration area or focus, the AP portfolio should show a variety of art skills. Drawings should reflect an area of interest or media preference but drawings, paintings, printmaking, mixed media, and sketches should be explored.

-Commitment to working on projects during and outside of class.

-Sketchbook/journal work will be maintained throughout the year and should be carried and used daily.

-Work without prompting.

-Use appropriate language during critiques.

-Meet deadlines.

-Participate in extra-curricular art related activities.

-Participate in art-related activities.

-Participate in art-related community service.

-Enter exhibitions; competitions; and contests.

- Maintain a B grade or higher.

- Trips to museums, galleries, and online exploration, are encouraged.

- Explore post-secondary options through college visits, college fairs, online exploration, and guidance department.

-Pay lab fee

- Be responsible, respectful, and perform random acts of kindness,

- Final exam / submission of portfolio is required to receive credit for this course.

Grading is as Follows:

Projects – 70%

Class participation – 20%

Sketchbook/journal – 10%
