　To foster highly capable researchers with wide international

    Overseas Research Fellowships―Restart Research Abroad 

(RRA) is launched in FY 2016. Young Japanese researchers who 

have suspended their research activities due to life event 

(marriage, childbirth, child raising, nursing and caregiving) 

are eligible to apply for an RRA fellowship.

【若手研究者海外挑戦プログラム 趣旨】

　海外という新たな環境へ挑戦し、３か月（９０日）～１年程度海

な博士後期課程学生等の育成に寄与することを目的とする。

【申請資格】

次の要件を全て満たしている者であること。

(２)申請時かつ採用時において日本国籍を持つ者又は日本に永住を

　　許可されている外国人

(３)連続して３か月以上、研究のために海外に滞在した経験がない

　　者（申請時において既に研究のために海外に滞在中で、連続し

　　て３か月以上海外に滞在する予定の者も申請できません。）

call for applications for the Overseas Challenge Program for

Young Researchers for FY2024.

This program is only for doctoral students. If the students in 

your laboratory want to apply for this program, please let them

contact the administrative office of their graduate school.

<Program Outline>

This program gives doctoral students an opportunity to go

overseas to challenge a new research environment, one in

which they engage in joint research with researchers in

other countries over a period of three months to one year.

In this way, the program contributes to the fostering of

young researchers who possess abundant international

experience and can be expected to play leading roles in the

wider scientific arena.

All fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural

sciences

<Periods and Scheduled Number of Participants>

2nd: August 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025

<Application Eligibility>

Applicants who meet all the following requirements are eligible 

to apply for this program.

(1) As of 1 April 2024, be enrolled in a doctoral program at

　  a Japanese university. 

(2) At the time of both application and selection, be a citizen

　　of Japan or have permanent residency status in Japan.

(3) However, persons are not eligible if at the time of application

　  they have already experienced a continuous 90-day stay overseas.

【事業趣旨】

国の研究機関は、「共同研究」、「学術会合（セミナー）」、「研

究者交流」を効果的に組み合わせて実施するものとします。

・実施期間：５年間（２０２４年８月～２０２９年７月）

・支給経費：１課題当たり５年間で５，０００万円以内

次世代データベースとデータ活用技術（New Generation 

Databases and Data-Empowering Technologies）

<Program outline>

　JSPS carries out the A3 Foresight Program to create world-

class research hubs within the Asian region, which by

advancing world-class research will contribute to the

solution of common regional problems, while fostering new

generations of talented young researchers. With A3

research/education institutions at their core, these hubs

carry out highly effective combinations of joint research

activities, seminars and researcher exchanges.

Start from August 2024 (5 years)

【開催趣旨】 

　先端科学（Frontiers of Science: FoS）シンポジウムは、日本及び諸外国の新進気鋭の

若手研究者を対象に、最先端の科学トピックについて分野横断的な議論を行う合宿形式の

国際シンポジウムです。

　各分野における最先端の研究概要について紹介し、分野を越えて議論を実施します。

　世界の第一線で活躍する研究者たちとともに科学研究のフロンティアを切り拓いていき

ませんか。意欲のある皆さんの積極的な参加をお待ちしています 。

【応募資格者】

研究機関に所属する若手研究者（※１）のうち、以下の条件を全て満たす者

 　1) 優れた学術業績があること

　2) 英語での議論に優れること

　3) リーダーシップを発揮できること

　4) 自分の専門分野に限らず、幅広い分野に対して興味関心を持っていること

　5) 対象となるシンポジウムの全日程に参加できること

　※１：若手研究者

　　　　　令和6（2024）年4 月1 日現在、博士の学位を有する45 歳以下の者又は博士

　　　　の学位を取得後15 年以下の者。

　　　　　ただし、申請者の出産・育児による休業（休暇、休職、離職を含む。）に伴う

　　　　研究活動の中断期間（人事記録等により確認できるもの）が通算3 ヶ月以上であ

　　　　ることを申請者の所属機関が認める場合は、博士の学位を有する47 歳以下の者

●Japanese-American-German Frontiers of Science Symposium

　　Symposium dates: 24-27 October, 2024 (4 days)

<Purpose of Symposiums>

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) holds Frontiers of 

Science (FoS) Symposiums for the purpose of contributing to the pioneering 

of new interdisciplinary domains through cross-disciplinary discussions 

advanced by excellent young researchers and for fostering future generation 

of leaders who possess wide interdisciplinary perspectives.

<Application Eligibility>

Young researchers (*1) who hold a doctora degree, belong to one of the research 

institutions in Japan and who meet all of the following conditions.

　Conditions:

　　1)Have an excellent record of research

　　2)Have excellent ability to hold discussions in English

　　3)Be able to display leadership

　　4)Have a wide interest in research that transcends one's own field of specialization

　　5)Be able to participate in all of the days of the symposium

　Note*1: Definition of "Young researchers"

　　　45 years old or younger or have received their doctoral degree with the past 15 

　　years as of 1 April 2024.

　　　If the applicant's home institution acknowledges that the applicant has interrupted

　　her/his research activities for a total of at least three months due to childbirth or 

　　childcare, she/he may apply up to 47 years of age or less with a doctoral degree, 

　　or 17 years or less after obtaining her/his doctoral degree.

【若手研究者海外挑戦プログラム 趣旨】

　海外という新たな環境へ挑戦し、３か月（９０日）～１年程度海

外の研究者と共同して研究に従事する機会を提供することを通じ

て、将来国際的な活躍が期待できる豊かな経験を持ち合わせた優秀

な博士後期課程学生等の育成に寄与することを目的とする。

人文学、社会科学及び自然科学の全分野

【派遣時期及び採用予定数】

第１回：２０２４年４月１日～２０２５年３月３１日（約７０名）

【申請資格】

次の要件を全て満たしている者であること。

(１)２０２４年４月１日現在、我が国の大学院博士後期課程

　　に在籍する者（申請時は見込みでも良い。）

(２)申請時かつ採用時において日本国籍を持つ者又は日本に永住を

　　許可されている外国人

(３)連続して３か月以上、研究のために海外に滞在した経験がない

　　者（申請時において既に研究のために海外に滞在中で、連続し

　　て３か月以上海外に滞在する予定の者も申請できません。）

applications for the Overseas Challenge Program for Young

Researchers for FY2024.

This program is only for doctoral students. If the students in 

your laboratory want to apply for this program, please let them

contact the administrative office of their graduate school.

<Program Outline>

This program gives doctoral students an opportunity to go

overseas to challenge a new research environment, one in

which they engage in joint research with researchers in

other countries over a period of three months to one year.

In this way, the program contributes to the fostering of

young researchers who possess abundant international

experience and can be expected to play leading roles in the

wider scientific arena.

<Target Fields>

All fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural

sciences

<Periods and Scheduled Number of Participants>

1st: April 1, 2024 - March 31, 2025

<Application Eligibility>

Applicants who meet all the following requirements are eligible 

to apply for this program.

(1) As of 1 April 2024, be enrolled in a doctoral program at

　  a Japanese university. 

(2) At the time of both application and selection, be a citizen

　　of Japan or have permanent residency status in Japan.

(3) However, persons are not eligible if at the time of application

　  they have already experienced a continuous 90-day stay overseas.

<Program outline>

　The aim of these programs is to form sustained networks

evolved from individual scientist exchanges including young

scientists. JSPS provides financial support to Japanese

scientists implementing such bilateral joint research

projects and seminars between research teams from Japan and

counterpart countries.

　The Bilateral Joint Research Projects/Seminars is

comprised of two components:

(A) Bilateral Joint Research Projects/Seminars with JSPS’s

Counterpart Institutions and

(B) Open Partnership Joint Research Projects/Seminars. Open

Partnership Joint Research Projects/Seminars provides

Japanese researchers an opportunity to conduct

research/seminar with researchers around the world who

reside in a country that has diplomatic relations with

Japan. (JSPS also treats researchers who reside in Taiwan

and Palestine in this manner.)

<About HOPE Meeting>

HOPE Meetings give opportunities to excellent graduate

students selected from countries and areas in the Asia-

Pacific and Africa region to engage in interdisciplinary

discussions with Nobel Laureates and other distinguished

hoped that the experience the students gain at the meeting

will inspire and motivate them to become excellent

scientists able to shoulder the future of science and

technology in the region.

【今年度の対象分野】

【リンダウ・ノーベル賞受賞者会議について】

　本会議は、世界各地の若手研究者の育成を目的として1951年に開

設され、毎年リンダウ（Lindau：ドイツ南部のボーデン湖に面する

保養地）において1週間程度の日程で開催されています。毎回30名

程度のノーベル賞受賞者が招かれ、世界各地から集った若手研究者

に対して講演を行うとともに、参加者とのディスカッションに応じ

るもので、若手研究者にとっては、受賞者と昼夜親しく接して大き

な知的刺激を受けると同時に、世界中に研究者ネットワークを形成

する絶好の機会となっています。

　物理学、化学、生理学・医学の自然科学3分野から、毎年左の順

序で1分野を対象とする会議がローテーションで行われるが、5年ご

とにこのローテーションを止めて、3分野合同会議が挟み込まれま

す。また、2～3年ごとに経済学分野が追加的に開催されます。

　・日本国籍を持つ者または永住許可外国人

　・2024年7月5日時点で35歳未満の者

　・博士課程学生またはポスドク研究者（※１）

< About "Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings" >

Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have been held since 1951.

They take place for about a week once every year in Lindau,

an island resort on the eastern side of Lake Constance, the

Bodensee, located in Southern Germany. About 30 Nobel

Laureates are invited to the meetings, to give lectures and

participate in panel discussions with young researchers from

around the world.

Every year, the meetings alternate their focus between the

three natural science disciplines of Physics, Chemistry and

Physiology/Medicine. A meeting on Economic Sciences has been

held every two or three years since 2004, and an

Interdisciplinary Meeting (Physics, Chemistry,

Physiology/Medicine) has been held every five years since

2000 in place of a usual natural science meeting in either

of the three disciplines.

The meetings dedicate to foster highly talented young

researchers by providing them with opportunities to talk

with Nobel Laureates in a casual setting all day, which

would stimulate their intellectual curiosity. They also

offer the best chances to build international peer networks.

Applicants need to meet all the following conditions.

1. Those who are "Doctoral Students" or "Postdoctoral

Scientists who obtained his/her doctoral degree within five

years and do not have tenure position as of July 5th, 2024".

2. Those who have Japanese nationality or permanent

residential permission in Japan.

3. Those who are under 35 years of age as of July 5th, 2024.

【開催趣旨】 

　先端科学（Frontiers of Science: FoS）シンポジウムは、日本及び諸外国の新進気鋭の

国際シンポジウムです。

　各分野における最先端の研究概要について紹介し、分野を越えて議論を実施します。

　世界の第一線で活躍する研究者たちとともに科学研究のフロンティアを切り拓いていき

ませんか。意欲のある皆さんの積極的な参加をお待ちしています 。

【応募資格者】

研究機関に所属する若手研究者（※１）のうち、以下の条件を全て満たす者

 　1) 優れた学術業績があること

　2) 英語での議論に優れること

　3) リーダーシップを発揮できること

　4) 自分の専門分野に限らず、幅広い分野に対して興味関心を持っていること

　5) 対象となるシンポジウムの全日程に参加できること

　※１：若手研究者

　　　　　日イスラエル先端科学シンポジウムは令和5(2023)年4月1日現在、日仏先端

　　　　科学シンポジウムは令和6(2024)年4月1日現在、博士の学位を有する45歳以下

　　　　の者または博士の学位を取得後15年以下の者であることを要件とする。

<Purpose of Symposiums>

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) holds Frontiers of 

Science (FoS) Symposiums for the purpose of contributing to the pioneering 

of new interdisciplinary domains through cross-disciplinary discussions 

advanced by excellent young researchers and for fostering future generation 

of leaders who possess wide interdisciplinary perspectives.

<Application Eligibility>

Young researchers (*1) who hold a doctora degree, belong to one of the research 

institutions in Japan and who meet all of the following conditions.

　Conditions:

　　1)Have an excellent record of research

　　2)Have excellent ability to hold discussions in English

　　3)Be able to display leadership

　　4)Have a wide interest in research that transcends one's own field of specialization

　　5)Be able to participate in all of the days of the symposium

　Note*1: Definition of "Young researchers"

　　　45 years old or younger or have received their doctoral degree with the past 15 

　　years as of 1 April 2023 for JIFoS Symposium and 1 April 2024 for JFFoS Symposium.

　　　If the applicant's home institution acknowledges that the applicant has interrupted

　　her/his research activities for a total of at least three months due to childbirth or 

　　childcare, she/he may apply up to 47 years of age or less with a doctoral degree, 

　　or 17 years or less after obtaining her/his doctoral degree.
