Inspiration

Susan Meiselas was born in 1948 in Maryland. She received two degrees from two different colleges, ending with her MA in visual education from Harvard University. Meiselas is best known for different types of photography, including a series on Nicaragua and human rights. Meiselas is inspirational because she captures moments as they are, not what a person wants to see. Through some of the toughest experiences in history, Meiselas was there to capture the pictures.

Devastating, emotional, torn but united. In this photo, we see the destruction caused by 9/11. Through a haze, we see the American flag flying in the distance showing a unification. This photo is interesting because it shows how a tragedy can occur and what comes with that tragedy. This image graphically shows a repetition of structures and lines. The lighting in this photo suggests the emotional content, allowing for sadness, grief, sorrow, but more importantly, a reminder of what country we live in. The light on the fires allows for the distance to be sort of blurred out, but the foreground to be more in focus: a moment in time we will never forget.
