I would say, completing homework every night, because every day new material keeps coming. Especially when you don't understand something, at home, just taking a few minutes to rewatch a video from class.
Be prepared! Everybody says it is a hard class, and it is challenging, but not in the ways you think. It isn't loads and loads of homework or unbelievably hard questions. It is the pace and understanding of what is given.
Have a study buddy! I was super helpful to have a friend to work with. Manage your time well and don’t wait until the last second.
I would tell incoming freshmen to make sure that they stay on top of their work, as in my experience, I did well if I had every assignment in and completed, but when I started to fall behind, my grade dipped a bit as well. Also, pay attention during full-class discussions, because it really helps solidify your understanding, especially right before a progress check or test!
Take notes, review them after each lesson. Study hard for the test and progress checks. Read the chapters and answer the objective questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are confused about something.
Honors Bio is not to be taken lightly it is a difficult course, but as long as you study and make sure to ask questions even if just for clarification it will do you justice. Once you start to understand the material it will get easier and it’s just fun to learn about about all these units in a deeper level of understanding.
TAKE NOTES!! Don’t procrastinate on work, because there’s actually a lot of interesting topics that we cover and it’s worth engaging in.
I have learned the importance of staying on topic and paying attention during class. Although I still had to study a lot for the class, paying attention is really the best way to learn the material and I find that, at least in this class period, a lot of the test answers would be things that we talked about in class during discussions as opposed to being in the videos given to us on the website, so there was never really any substitution for paying attention in class. If you don’t pay attention and listen, it is going to be very difficult to study and get a good grade. Also, it is important to give your all to everything you do in class (labs and objectives) because cramming for a difficult test isn’t going to help you really learn the material or do very well. Overall, I just learned that your success is determined, in large part, through the amount of effort you use IN CLASS.
This class has helped me improve my critical thinking, and it has helped me to write detailed explanations and draw detailed models.
Be open minded and be ready to think on your toes.
Use models as much as possible and analyze them until you truly understand every component.
One piece of advice that I wish I heard before taking this course is that a B is not a bad grade as long as you try your hardest. There’s a lot of pressure, especially in your freshman year, to get all A's in order to set up your GPA, and I feel like a lot of kids stress about they’re grades so much, even if they’re straight A students. Before entering my freshman year, I was constantly being told that I had to get straight A's, and if there was any year that I had to do so, it was this one. I had to come to my own realization that if I'm trying my hardest, that is enough, and I should be satisfied and proud of myself for trying my best.
