Camp Cosmo is a STEM skills camp for incoming 3rd through 7th graders. Working in teams. students use the engineering design process and FIRST priciples to solve problems. AT past events students have tackled everything from
In our original version of Camp Cosmo, students spend two afternoons learning about STEM and FIRST principles through design challenges.
On Day 1, students spend their time getting to know their partners and exploring various STEM stations, like spaghetti tower building and a coding challenge.
On Day 2, teams tackle a challenge inspired by our new season. They are given a budget and are guided through the design process by mentors. Afterwards, they present their design and compete for awards in the challenge.
At Camp Cosmo Mini, we bring the fun of Camp Cosmo directly to students in their classrooms. It is a condensed version of Camp Cosmo that runs for one class period.
Each class receives a presentation on FIRST, STEM principles, and the challenge they will be competing in. Students form teams and are given a budget and various materials to develop a solution to the problem.
At the end of the class period, the class tests their designs against each other for awards.
Camp Cosmo, the smallest version we run, is the perfect way for your student to dip their toes into a range of STEM fields.
Roughly 20 minutes long, a Camp Cosmo Lite is well-suited as a high-interest day session or a station at your next STEM event.
During our most recent demo, we ran a paper airplane session focused on aerodynamics and aviation. Students chose from several plane templates and modified them to travel the farthest distance possible.
