Academic Support
Because middle school is essential for developing fundamental skills that are used throughout high school and beyond, supporting children through their challenges may be necessary for some. Ultimately, we hope to foster responsibility, self-advocacy, and independence in our students. These, therefore, become the foundation of all support systems made available to students at PPMS.
The first step when experiencing any level of challenge requiring extra support should always be to communicate with the teacher. The teachers at PPMS are dedicated to the success of ALL of students and want to be an integral part of establishing a support plan.
STUDENT TEACHER PERIOD (STP)
STP meets every Thursday for 28 minutes. STP is a period for all students, allowing them to reflect on what needs to be accomplished for best performance in all classes. Students may receive guided support on their daily work, complete makeup work, organize their locker or begin their homework independently. It is a great opportunity for students to learn self-advocacy skills.
HOMEWORK CLUB
Homework club is an opportunity for any student to work on their homework in a structured and supportive setting. Teachers are there to help students study, organize, and complete school work.
Homework Club is an after school club that meets twice a week (Mondays & Wednesdays) beginning in October for 6-8 grade from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Busing is available for all students who sign up ahead of time.
Homework Club is a voluntary activity in which students may elect to participate. Sign up is done on a weekly basis or a student may sign up as a regular attendee.
OUTSIDE TUTORING
At the expense of the parent, private tutors are available for extra skill development, homework coaching, and work skill development. Tutoring occurs during after school hours. Times, cost, and location are negotiated directly with the individual tutor.

SUMMER SCHOOL
Summer school is available for all students in the district. For more information please visit

Summer school meets every summer for about one month. Multiple classes are available.
READING INTERVENTIONS
LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention)
The academic area of focus for LLI is reading fluency and comprehension.
LLI is for students in 6-8 grade who meet criteria indicating a need for this intervention. LLI meets daily in place of electives

The academic area of focus for R180 is reading comprehension.
R180 is for students in 6-8 grade who meet criteria indicating a need for this intervention. Read 180 meets daily in place of electives
Just Words
The academic area of focus for Just Words is foundational reading skills
LLI is for students in 6-8 grade who meet criteria indicating a need for this intervention. LLI meets daily in place of electives
HELPS
HELPS is a program that allows students to improve their fluency skills through the use of repeated readings.
HELPS is for students in 6-8 grade who meet criteria indicating a need for this intervention. It takes about 10 minutes per day, and is scheduled at some point during the student’s day.
MATH INTERVENTION
Math Support offers additional “small group” support in math skills and concepts. Each section will be specifically designed to meet the needs of the students enrolled.
Math support occurs during SEI time twice a week (as available)
This support will be assigned to a student with specific needs in math determined by faculty and administration.
