The Ellen Mai Guru Trust (EMGT) was set up to relieve poverty and advance education in Malawi. We do so by supporting the work of our partner organisation, Mother Mary’s Children Centre (MMCC), a Malawian registered NGO, that was founded by Mary Mangwiza Manyusa to help local communities suffering the ravages of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
MMCC now operates three centres, at Atuweni, Mlambe and Mpokonyola, feeding and providing pre-school education for over 700 children, as well as offering adult literacy classes.
The EMGT provides regular funds to pay the salaries of teaching assistants, helpers and gardeners at the three centres. We provide the funds required to grow and harvest the annual maize and soya crops, which are used to feed the children attending the centres.
We also work with local communities in the villages surrounding the centres to relieve poverty through the provision of clean water supplies, and agricultural projects.
MMCC is a non-profit, Malawian NGO formed in 2006 and founded by Mary Mangwiza Manyusa to help local communities suffering the ravages of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
With the vision that every child belongs to a family and deserves to grow with love, respect and security, the Centre helps build families for orphaned children or those in need, allowing them to shape their own futures and to share in the development of their communities.
As of January 2020, the organisation proudly supports over one thousand orphans and vulnerable children, together with vulnerable adults across our three operational centres.
