A one-page handout to help recall quick fixes for the iPad. Have this handout available when first starting out to support you.
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard.
Tap Keyboards, tap Add New Keyboard, then choose a keyboard.
Additional keyboards can be added with 3rd party apps like Texthelp's Read&Write or Swype.
While typing text, touch and hold the globe icon or emoji icon .
Slide your finger to the name of the keyboard you want to switch to.
Some keyboards will change the look and options of the keyboard, like Read&Write or GBoard.
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard.
Turn on Enable Dictation.
While entering text, tap the microphone icon in the onscreen keyboard or in the Search field, then speak.
When you finish, tap the keyboard icon .
To insert text by dictating, tap to place the insertion point, then tap the microphone icon . You can also replace selected text by dictating.
While dictating text, say the punctuation or formatting.
For example, “Dear Mary comma the check is in the mail exclamation mark” becomes “Dear Mary, the check is in the mail!” Punctuation and formatting commands include the following:
quote … end quote
new paragraph
new line
cap—to capitalize the next word
Apple Classroom app can support classroom and device management in an iPad classroom. The support below lends itself to a shared environment, but can also be used if the classroom is 1:1 iPads. Apple Classroom can be downloaded from the App Store or Self Service and set up on a teacher used iPad. If you are not seeing the app on your iPad, or need assistance with the set up, be sure to reach out to the Digital Learning Team for support.
Apple Classroom requires all students to be signed into their Apple iPad. To assist with this the Shared iPad model is used. The video shows how to do this. Also, refer to the attachments below.
To reset a student Apple ID password, you must have a school-issued Apple ID and use either use the Apple Classroom app or go to school.apple.com. The video explains the process with Apple Classroom. If you do not know or have a school-issued Apple ID, please request one via a Helpdesk Request.
Groups are added based on apps that are opened on each iPad
Groups can be manually created
Select Group on the teacher iPad
Add name for group and select return
Select the students to add students/iPads to the group
Selecting Edit can allow more students to be added
Open apps on groups or individual iPads
Using the "Lock in app after opening" does not allow the student close the app without you allowing
Unlock a locked app with the Unlock option
iPads can be moved to a direct website from your Favorites list in Safari
iPads can also be opened to a specific iBook or PDF in iBooks on each iPad
*PDFs and iBooks must be preinstalled on the student iPad
Using the "Lock in app after opening" does not allow the student close the Safari or iBooks without you allowing

AirDrop is turned off on student iPads, but can be used in Apple Classroom to share student work and interesting finds.
Select the Share icon
Find the iPad you want to share with (either teacher, individual student iPad, group)
On the teacher iPad, work submitted by students will need to be accepted. Photos are stored on teacher camera roll.
Using Reflector or another AirPlay method a teacher can select an iPad to share on classroom projector or other iPads
Select the iPad to share out in the Classroom app
Select AirPlay from the Menu options
Download and install Apple Classroom from the App Store or Self Service
Open app
Type in your name and add picture if wanted by clicking edit under the person icon
Select Create Class*
Add class's name and other description. Choose a color and an icon to help represent the class from the dashboard.
Turn Bluetooth on both teacher and student iPad
Select Add (has the person icon on the top row) on the teacher iPad
Open Settings app on the student iPad
Under the Bluetooth option on the left, select Classroom
Select the class you want to add the iPad for under New Class Invitation
Add a student name that is recognizable from the teacher Classroom app dashboard
Input the code on the teacher iPad screen
Change the AirPlay and View Screen from Ask to Always
On the teacher iPad touch Add
Repeat steps 2 through 9 with the other iPads in the classroom
*Note: iPads can be set up for different classrooms or one class. On the video it suggest more than one classroom, but may be just as effective to have only one class as the students are not actually being added to each class built in the app.
