Use Netiquette (respectful, virtual etiquette) when you are communicating with others.
In order to be successful in this class, you will want to make sure you are “tech ready” from the start. You will want to make sure you have the following:
A secure, reliable internet connection
Access to our course through Canvas
Access to Zoom
A word processor (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc.)
A PDF viewer
Do you not have any of the above? Do not worry! SMC has access to free or low-cost internet as well as free software (including Microsoft Office). Visit the Technology Resources for Students page for more information.
Accessing and successfully using Corsair Connect is essential in you reaching your goals at SMC.
Use the Corsair Connect Guide to get started using Corsair Connect.
Be sure to have access to your Student Email through either the web application and/or by connecting it to your smartphone:
iOS devices
Android devices
Tip: Check your Student Email at least once a day to keep up-to-date with announcements, updates, and information. The campus or your instructors will probably not initiate an email conversation to an email that is not your Student Email, and here is why:
Faculty and staff have codes to send out mass messages with updates and information to the student body as a whole or to individual sets of students, including classes. Your Student Email is attached to these codes. Using the codes eliminates entering everyone's individual emails one-by-one, thereby cutting-down on time spent and ensuring that no one is missed.
Depending on availability and need, you may be able to borrow a Chromebook from to help you with your academic success.
Being a student on our campus allows you free access to Microsoft Office 365 while enrolled in our classes, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and OneDrive!
Canvas is our campus's online learning management system, which means online class content is housed in the Canvas platform. Visit SMC's Canvas information page to not only get access to Canvas, but learn how to use it, troubleshoot common issues, and get help.
Having technology issues? Use this as the primary source of information and assistance for technology-related assistance. The staff will try their best to identify software problems, explain error messages, direct you to helpful documentation, advise you on debugging techniques and explain syntax errors. No question should be considered too basic to ask.
