Did you know that good communication and critical thinking are the top skills employers across all fields look for when hiring a candidate?
Welcome to English 2! I am excited to work with you, for you to reach your goals with our class, and for me to learn from you.
The English 2 Canvas site will house everything for our class.
The theme of our English 2 class is "AI: What is it? And, Best Practices." Through the theme of our class, you will gain knowledge that will empower you to successfully navigate and conquer many of college's and life's situations.
To accomplish this theme, the class will be divided into different units. Each unit will end with an essay.
During our first unit, you will get oriented with the expectations of the class, materials and technology needed, as well as set yourself up for a successful term. This unit will also help set up the foundations of English, communication, and critical thinking skills needed to be successful in college, in your career, and beyond.
Unit Two will begin our exploration of AI. We will be reading the classic novel, Frankenstein, while utilizing literary analysis techniques to understand it. We will then end the unit by relating themes of Frankenstein to explanations and examples of AI in order to create our own definitions.
During Unit Three, we will apply our base definitions of AI created during Unit Two to understanding how to recognize its uses in our day-to-day lives. We will also explore misuses and negatives of AI usage.
To finalize our exploration of AI, we will take all that we have learned and apply it to further research about effective and ethical uses of AI.
A syllabus provides a guide for a class you are enrolled in. Typically, it lists class meeting times and locations, the instructor's contact information, the course's description, expectations, policies, and important dates.
Tip: It is wise to thoroughly review and mark-up your syllabi with notes at the start of any semester (or prior if you get a syllabus sooner), so you may make a plan for success for the term, be prepared, get ahead in your work if able, and ask clarifying questions to your instructor.
Tip: Many class and campus questions are answered in the syllabus. Before asking your instructor a question, see if you can find the answer in the syllabus. When you can't, or if the answer is unclear, feel free to reach-out to your instructor, mentioning you already tried to find the answer in the syllabus. That way, you are helping your instructor know information to add in order to improve their syllabus.
Review the syllabus for our English 1 course by clicking the Syllabus tab in our Canvas site.
