A: Read I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff

T: Students researched facts about the pet they would like to see in the Media Center. They had to write a paragraph citing reasons why their pet would make the best pet. Then they had to write a paragraph of what all we needed to take care of the pet. 

S: They had to present their letter to our principal. 

Haiku Poetry

Each year our students write for the Young American Poetry Digest. While the digest focuses on Haiku poetry, they will accept any style of poetry. These 4 students were our first published poets!

Jack & The Bean Stalk

T: Read Jack and the Bean Stalk by Steven Kellogg. Then students receive their planning/testing sheet

S: Students ended by presenting their parachute to the class. The class discussed each design to find what worked best.

Abolitionist Research

I can discuss the contributions of and challenges faced by Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Tubman. SS4H4 a


T: Students were to use multiple sources to gather information about a chosen abolitionist. They were introduced to Galileo and Destiny.  (Research)


S: Students were expected to produce a Google Slide Presentation to present to their classmates.

ECES Announces GA Book Award Runner-Up

Elbert County Elementary Students were asked to introduce the runner up for the 2020 Georgia Picture Book Awards Awards. 


Resources Used: Students were asked to record a Flipgrid response to: What is your favorite part of When a Wolf Is Hungry. 

WeVideo was used to create the video announcement. 

5-Pocket Biographies

I can describe the life and contributions of historical figures in Georgia. SS2H1 a-f

T: Students are exposed to a variety of texts (in the classroom and Media Center) to obtain information about the following famous Georgians: James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, Sequoyah, Jackie Robinson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Juliette Gordon Low, Jimmy Carter. 

S: Students will present their 5 pocket Biogrpahies to their classmates.
