2021 - 2022 School Year

Welcome to the Sport for Life family at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School! We are excited that we will be able to offer Sport For Life (SFL) this year and we hope to provide a fun and challenging year of activities for your child.

COVID-19

It is important to note that we are committed to the health and safety of our students and will be closely following guidelines and protocols outlined by Alberta Health Services and Elk Island Catholic Schools. For the most up-to-date information on our district’s COVID-19 protocols, please check the EICS website https://www.eics.ab.ca/. Additionally, students and staff will also be expected to follow individual protocols set out by various vendors and facilities we visit throughout the school year.

As mentioned in our registration information shared in the Spring, our plan for the Sport for Life program this year must be flexible. Should there be restrictions in place that limit activities, therefore reducing the costs, fees will be adjusted accordingly as we proceed through the school year. It is also important to be aware that the structure of the program could change or be postponed during the year to align with health measures.

General Information

Should you need any information from the Sport For Life program, please go to the OLPH Sport For Life website at: https://sites.google.com/eics.ab.ca/s4l/

Each month, our students get the opportunity to try out a number of different activities that target a variety of skills and athletic professions. To keep up-to-date on what we’re doing each month, we recommend you bookmark our website. On the website, you will find the calendar for all upcoming activities, as well as permission forms for any upcoming field trips.

Curriculum

The Sport for Life curriculum includes Physical Education, Health, and Career and Technology Foundations. Students in the program study nutrition, personal development, self and team evaluation, sports injuries, sports leadership, sports psychology, sport-specific training, sports-related careers and more.

Clothing & Equipment

Students should come prepared each day with a pair of indoor shoes, athletic wear (weather appropriate), deodorant, and a water bottle. Equipment for each activity will typically be provided.

Students will receive Sport for Life clothing as well as a bag to carry items to and from activities (these items are included in student’s SFL fees). Students will typically try on SFL clothing during the first week of school. The order should arrive for students in October.

Health Concerns/ Injuries

Finally, we would also ask you to please contact your child’s SFL teacher to let them know if there are any health concerns and/or injuries that should be brought to their attention.

We are looking forward to a great year with your child!
