Welcome to Cosmetology 10 where we will have fun learning about and exploring the art and science of beauty. Cosmetology 10 is an introductory (3 credit) course that will provide students with the basic skills and knowledge of the Cosmetology industry. Learning to apply practical application of knowledge, artistic ability, creative talent and people skills. This course supports social, academic and professional practices and contains transferable skills that students can apply to any field of study. You will learn to shampoo, blow-dry, and style hair just like the professionals do in the salon. Furthermore, you will grow in confidence as you larn and refine your skills to brush, comb and part hair properly. While we explore hairstyling as a career, as a general interest course, learning in Cos 10 will take on a deeper meaning as the appreciation for the importance of personal grooming increases and the knowledge and skills gained become more practical and relevant as life skills. Students who complete can move on to our intermediate and senior levels, using credits to work toward the provincial apprenticeship program. The course of study consists of practical work in the lab as well as related theory work to provide students with the requisite skills as prescribed by the Alberta Education curriculum.
Welcome to Cosmetology 20! In this intermediate level of Cosmetology we will explore the world of Cos in a more “colorful” way. You are ready to build on your salon practices at this intermediate level! Your styling techniques from Cos 10 will compliment the skills you will learn to safely perform basic haircuts. Learning gets more exciting as we dig into our Color theory, learning to formulate, mix, apply, process and remove hair colors. Adding to you ‘skills bank’, you will learn to create up-do styles using a combination of advanced long hair techniques. Part of the program is client-service based. Due to COVID restrictions client/partner work will only be within our own personal class cohort (if restrictions are not lifted). Students are encouraged at this level to further develop and work on refining their skills for a possible future in the beauty industry or to simply grow their interest as they gain experience in the artistry of Cosmetology.
Welcome to Cosmetology 30! In this advanced level you will learn to hone your skills to gain a deeper insight into the salon/beauty industry as a potential career. Building on your repertoire of hairstyling knowledge and skill set, you will learn advanced concepts related to hair cutting techniques, as well as hair coloring, the principles of decolorization as they apply to the use lighteners, special effects hair coloring such as foil highlights, low-lights, zonal applications and up and coming hair coloring trends. Students will further expand their skills to learn the physical process in basic perm wrapping that include sectioning, blocking and the winding of the hair. Part of the program is client-service based and with COVID restrictions we will work only within our own cohort, allowing students to practice their customer service skills in our ABJ salon setting. At the Cos 30 level, students are further encouraged to develop and refine their skill set for a use in a career in the beauty industry or to simply grow their interest as they gain experience in the artistry of Cosmetology.
