3 Strategies to Multiply Decimals :)
DFD approach (decimal --> fraction --> decimal)
- convert your decimal to a fraction, multiply, and then convert back to a decimal
- best when there are NO whole numbers!
Inverse by 10s approach (opposites!)
- change your factors to whole numbers by multiplying by multiples of 10
- balance your product by dividing by the equivalent of your multiples of 10
Ignore & Bring Back approach
- multiply as if there were no decimals!
- count the total places behind the decimals of your factors
- move your decimal that number of places from the right
If a decimal is on the side....slide / slide
If you're dividing by a whole number and the decimal is only in the house, you raise it to the roof!
