"I liked how you got to do different things like prop making, movie trailers and getting into groups with people that make it fun. Other people should sign up to learn how to do many things and touch different areas of theatre activities. It was pretty cool how we had a choice in how we wanted to do things and make it our own and we even played theatre games alot and we also got to watch like 3 musicals for one of our finals. I would say that I was nervous as well since I hate going in front of people and talking and even getting up to ask to go to the bathroom but I ended up liking the class so much that it was the only class I liked in my schedule. " ---Athena C. (c/o 2027)
"Theatre 1 is a very simple and easy introduction to the performing arts. And I know you may think that theatre is only acting, but it is not. Theatre has a technical side as well. And honestly, I think technical theatre is much cooler than acting theatre. First off, you can learn prop design, video editing, and sound design on the simpler levels. Plus, if none of that encourages you... You watch movies as part of the actual class. I remember watching Shrek The Musical and it was lovely." --- Adam B. (c/o 2026)
"I enjoyed theater 1 because you get to meet a lot of people. Cool things we did in theatre is prop design, made a commercial and play games. I personally liked theatre 1 because I met more people which ended being my friends in the future. Don’t be nervous, theater 1 is new for everyone so everyone is in the same boat." ----Jeremiah B. (c/o/ 2028)
Theatre 2 is a year long course at LCHS (satisfies a VAPA credit for A-G requirements) ------go to k-9 to sign up :)
pre-requisites: must have passed Theatre 1 OR be reccommended by McCloud due to involvement in Cardinal Theatre productions. You can sign up at course selection :)
Testimonials from past Theatre 1 students :)
"Theatre 2 is the step-up from Theatre 1. It's completely optional, but if you truly enjoyed Theatre 1 for any reasons, I recommend taking Theatre 2. My time in Theatre 2 can be described as learning stage lighting; video creation, design, and editing; and (even though I am no actor) honing my acting skills. None of the projects that I remember were in front of the whole class. There are little to no performances, but even if you're tech-centered, it is still good to know some acting skills if you ever encounter an interview in the future." ---- Adam B. (c/o 2026)
"Theatre pushes you to participate and try things you'd never think of doing in an extremely positive way. The kind and inviting environment bring comfortability that you wouldn't experience in another way. For me, theatre means confidence and openness. This class and its activities have brought me to improve my confidence and social skills in public (ex: public speaking). Although you may not foster the same classmates I've had in my theatre classes, the support you receive from others who do the same thing is unlike any other as doing something that may feel uncomfortable is always better with people by your side. " ----- Owen R. (c/o 2027)

Testimonials from past/ current Advanced Theatre students :)
"I enjoy Advanced Theater thoroughly; the activities are really fun and if you have friends in the same class you're able to play fun theater games and do cool projects with them. It's a very enriching class, that also helps you grow in many skills that will help you throughout your life, like public speaking and confidence. Some things I would say to someone who's nervous or on the fence about joining: If you're nervous about the public speaking aspect, this class can help you come out of your shell. This class also offers less stage-oriented roles such as tech roles (painting sets, running set pieces, making props, doing makeup, etc.)" --- Micah Y. (c/o 2026)
"Advanced theatre is an incredibly welcoming and low stress environment. The material is engaging, fun and even if acting isn't your thing there is something of value for you to learn. Or you will just have a blast! Everything from learning how to hang and focus a light, to stepping outside of your comfort-zone through dramatic monologues is made fun and interesting by the people you're working with. I've never felt judged or frowned upon in any theatre environment, and I can genuinely be myself to the fullest. Is that cheesy? Probably. "---- Makayla S. (c/o 2026)
"Advanced Theater is an amazing class to join. Involving yourself with the performing arts department gives you many opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills, and have an amazing time with friends. Being a part of a theater opens many doors for people, you can learn how to do tech things like; sound board, lights, special effects make up, how to write our own plays, learning how to use our intuition to cold read scripts, and much more. It’s an amazing way to get over stage fright and improve your social, presentation, creativity, and imagination skills. "---- Yoselyn B. (c/o 2028)

Testimonials from past/ current students involved in Cardinal Theatre :)
"I enjoy being involved in the plays/musicals because it gave me an opportunity to be a part of a community where I could be myself. If people feel like they don't have anywhere that they "fit in," they should definitely join, in any capacity. The people involved in this program are kind and welcomingand make everyone feel at home. By being involved in the theater program, you are able to have many artistic outlets and learn many new skills. For example, while involved with the program, I have been able to do hair and makeup. When I first joined, I didn't know how to do stage makeup and I also didn't know anybody. The people involved, and Mrs. McCloud, were incredibly kind and taught me all about theatre stage makeup and hair. In my time with the theater program here I have been able to help out with set construction, set painting, making costumes, run crew, and hair and makeup. Being able to this variety of thing has allowed me to gain experience, and the ability to apply what I've learn to real world stuff. For example, I recently renovated my brother's room, and using the what I learned to paint and, essentially, rip apart his room safely. And for people who are nervous to apply for the program, the process is really quite simple. All you have to do is go into Mrs. McCloud classroom to grab an application, for tech or cast, fill it out and return. There are many positions available, so it is very likely that most people who apply will get one. And even if not, people can still volunteer and help out after school." ----Camron S. (c/o 2026)
"I and many others enjoy being in musicals and plays because of the connections to each other and the satisfaction of a great show. I have made friendships I never would have expected, and have built an unexpected love for theater. I have covered a variety of crew roles and have found a great place in being backstage crew. ---- Anonymous (c/o 2027)
"Being apart of Drama Club & Cardinal theatre gives you a place where you can be yourself an express your creativity with others and put a lot of your skills to the test. They give a lot of people an outlet where they can let loose and show their creativity and love for theatrical performances and or the technical side. We hold amazing and fun events throughout the school year where you are able to come and enjoy time with your friends, we have pot lucks, mini parties, trivia days and much more. We are a very open club and make sure that everybody feels welcomed and comfortable, we will always be a safe place and a drama free zone. We encourage everyone to try and audition for our musicals/plays and although you might be nervous we promise that auditions are not scary at all if anything we try our best to make them fun and memorable and you are able to go in with a group so you will not be alone and have encouragement from others. I have auditioned for one musical although I am a very tech oriented person and had an amazing time being apart of our shows give you opportunities to make amazing bonds with your cast and have memories that will last a very long time."--- Yoselyn B. (c/o 2027)
"I recommend the Cardinal Theatre to everyone. Not only is working on a play super fun, the actors, crew, and basically everyone involved is extremely kind, supportive, and all-around great people. The joy of producing a show, especially with everyone that's a part of it, is something I want everyone to experience. Join theatre, even if it's only for one production (crew or acting), we'd love to have you!"--- Wyatt W. (c/o 2029)
