My ambition for after high school is to attend a four-year university, specifically a UC or a CSU. At the moment, I do not have a set career plan but I hope in the future my career will consist of helping others.
In school, I am involved in various clubs such as the Fashion Club and the Afghan Student Association. I aspire to create my own club this year as well. I manage Men's and Women's Volleyball and that is where I do most of my community service. I am also, of course, a part of Link Crew!
Advice that I would give to this year's 9th graders to be more successful in school is to be organized! As a freshman, I found it helpful to have two separate binders for even and odd days. Doing this gave me the habit of checking my binder every night to make sure all of my work was done before I switched them out. I also advise 9th graders to keep a planner, planners are vital because you can write down your homework, due dates, and upcoming events. Staying organized will lead to being successful in high school!
The best parts about high school so far have been the school events. Whether it be a school dance, play, or game, taking a break from academics and attending these events created memories with friends that will last forever. I've always enjoyed attending these events (especially Creek Rock) because they were always a fun way to support the school.

If I could change anything about high school, I would wish to have gone back and tried out for sports as a freshman. High school is the time to try new things and to find new passions. Even if you feel like you're not good at a sport, being a freshman allows you to join the freshmen sports teams and build your skills and maybe you could possibly become the next varsity player! I would strongly advise all freshmen who are interested in a sport to try out!
If I could go to any concert I would definitely want to go to a Daniel Caesar concert. His voice is so angelic and I would love to hear it live! I would most definitely take my best friend Marilet because she is also a big fan of him as well.
I love Laguna because of its diversity! My favorite event to attend every school year is the multicultural assembly. Laguna Creek is one of the most diverse schools in California, and this assembly showcases the union of various cultures and watching each performance makes me appreciate attending Laguna Creek even more. Laguna Creek is truly AMAZING!

I would like to attend Sac State and study engineering.
I am in G.E.T.A. and am hoping to be in cross country, track and field, and drama club.
The best advice I would give my classmates would be to do their work right away and not procrastinate.
I would change the schedule so it was every class on Monday, odd classes on Tuesday and Thursday, and even classes on Wednesday and Friday.
If I could go to any concert I would go to De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, or Beastie Boys, and I would bring my father.
I really respect my father because he is very responsible, hilarious, and incredibly intelligent.
I love that Laguna Creek has many different sports and club options for me to choose from.

I have been part of the Laguna family for eight years now, teaching English and AVID. I’m the AVID Coordinator, and the AVID club advisor.
It took me a long time to decide what I wanted to do, so I went to community college part time while working full-time for six years. I graduated from Sac State with a bachelors in English and a minor in Linguistic Anthropology. My actual teaching credential came from San Francisco State, but I worked through a teaching credential program with Elk Grove Unified.
I was not involved in any activities in high school, and it something that I regret now. If I could go back and do it again, I would join a lot more clubs.
I think students would benefit from not just taking notes in class, but going back to them after the fact. Notes are a good way to review, and remind yourself of what you learned.
I would like there to be more free time in school, where students could get help from teachers during the school day. A study hall type class.
A life coach! I could tell people what to do and they would pay me to do it! Or the person who name streets for new housing developments. Wouldn’t that be awesome?!
I love Laguna because it still feels like a family. Students and teachers are like our very inclusive of everyone.

You won't know exactly which supplies you'll need until you meet all of your teachers on the first two days of school (remember, you go to all of your ODD classes on the 16th, and all of your EVEN classes on the 17th!), but here is a good guess as to what supplies you'll need for success. Being organized is really important in high school, and especially on our schedule! But guess what-- it's not hard! You just need to be prepared:
Backpack
Binder
Dividers
Binder Paper
Blue and Black pens
Pencils and an eraser
Highlighters
A dry erase marker with an eraser
A pencil pouch to keep all this stuff in! (Let's get organized!)
A student planner to write down homework (our school does not provide these, but some academies do, so make sure you can return anything if you purchase it ahead of time!)
Starting August 27, Link Crew and AVID will join teams to provide homework and school success strategies. Teachers and students will provide help getting organized, breaking big projects into manageable pieces, and help with homework. ALL students are welcome to attend!
That's it for this edition of FRESH PRINTS! Check back every month for even more cool stuff!
