Mathematics I (Math I) is the first course in the high school integrated pathway and is based on the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
Math I is a 3-term course covering 8 units including topics from Algebra, Geometry, Probability and Statistics.
It meets both the A-G college readiness and high school graduation requirements.
The book used for Math I is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s California Integrated Mathematics 1 and is an extension of the “Go Math” Series currently used in EGUSD elementary and middle schools.
100-90%=A, 89-80%=B, 79-70%=C, 69-60%=D, 59%-below=F.
To get credit for the term, a grade of D- or higher is required, and a grade of C- or better is required to move on to Mathematics II.
There are two to three unit tests per term which accounts for 40% of their grade.
Quizzes are used weekly to monitor student progress and account for 15% of their grade.
Essential Skills Quizzes (ESQs) are worth 10% of the academic grade. These quizzes are given on a weekly basis and cover the essential skills required to be successful in Math I, often taught in previous years. The same concepts will be on each quiz for the duration of the term.
Assignments are worth 20% of their grade. Students should expect a homework assignment every night.
The final exam each term is a cumulative assessment and counts as 15% of their grade.
Each day, students are expected to bring:
· Paper
· Pencils with erasers
· 1" Binder (to organize notes, handouts, etc.)
· Math I textbook
While students will have many opportunities to work together, ultimately each student is responsible for their own learning. Cheating on quizzes, tests, or other assignments will be dealt with appropriately (see Student Handbook).
As per school policy, phones are not permitted during instructional time. A student in possession of a phone during instructional time may result in disciplinary action and/or may impact their grade.
