Supplies
Required: Pencils and erasers, 3-ring binder with dividers and binder paper dedicated to math for notes and assignments, colorful pens and highlighters for note-taking and correcting assignments. The Math I textbook is expected to be in the classroom each day. It is highly recommended that students also have colored pencils or pens, graph paper, and a scientific calculator.
Homework
Homework is assigned and checked daily. Each homework assignment is worth 2 points. 2 points for completion, 1 point for incomplete (more than half completed), 0 points if less than half completed or not turned in. Homework assignments should be done in PENCIL.
Students MUST show evidence and reasoning for answers.
No work = 0 points!!!
Tardy
Students are expected to be on time and in their assigned seat when the bell rings or they will be considered tardy.
CO’s Tardy Policy will be strictly enforced:
Absences and Make-up Work
Students are responsible for getting lesson notes and assignments, and making up any work, quiz, or test they miss due to an excused absence. Students have one day for each day they were absent to complete all make-up work.
Late Work
Late work will NOT be accepted. No exceptions! This includes being late to class.
Notes
Students are required to take notes daily. Notes should be taken and kept in a 3-ring binder. Students should refer to their notes while completing assignments and studying for assessments. Students who refuse to take notes will be sent to the office.
Quizzes, Tests, and Finals
Quizzes are generally 10-30 points each and are given throughout each module. Tests are generally 30-70 points each and are given at the end of each unit (about every 2 weeks). Finals are cumulative, given at the end of each term, and are multiple choice. Students will be notified of quizzes and tests in advance. Practices quizzes and tests are given for each unit to help students prepare.
Tests and Final Exams remain the property of the teacher.
ESQs (Essential Skills Quizzes)
Essential Skills Quizzes (ESQs) are given on a weekly basis and cover the essential skills required to be successful in Math I, often taught in previous years. The same concepts will be on each quiz for the duration of the term.
Group Collaboration
Students will be required to work with a partner or in small groups collaboratively. During collaboration, each group member is expected to be actively engaged on the assignment, have team independence, discuss mathematics only, and work together on the same problem.
Tutoring
Tutoring and extra help with Ms. Haren is available during Wolf Pack Hour or by appointment only. After school tutoring through CO’s Extended Day Program is also available.
Performance Tasks
Performance tasks will be given periodically throughout the course. Performance tasks are assigned to enrich student learning and to extend the use of mathematical concepts in the real world.
Extra Credit
Extra Credit is available on Learning Logs and with leftover bathroom passes.
Bathroom Passes
Each student is given 4 bathroom passes per term. Please use discretion when using the bathroom during class (i.e., do not interrupt instruction). Only one student is allowed to be out of the room at a time. Bathroom passes are not accepted during the first and last 15 minutes of class, or while lunch is in session. Students should utilize passing periods and lunch to use the restroom.
Dismissal
I will dismiss the class, not the bell. Students are to remain seated in their desks until class is dismissed. Packing up early and/or lining up at the door is never permitted.
Electronics
Students must have all iPods, headphones, and cell phones turned off and away before entering the classroom. If a student violates these conditions, the student will be sent to OCI.
Food/Drinks
Food and drinks are generally allowed in the classroom as long as they do not create a distraction or a mess. No drinks without lids or caps.
Student Discipline
Good citizenship and respectable behavior is expected of all students. Students who fail to follow the classroom rules will receive the following consequences;
• referral to the administration and parent notification
• OCI and parent notification
Cheating
Cheating will NOT be tolerated. Any student found cheating will receive disciplinary action for the violation from the ACADEMIC CODE OF CONDUCT. To help eliminate any cheating on assessments, all students will be required to leave their phones and backpacks in the front of the classroom. **Reminder** Talking during a test is considered cheating!
