Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Resourceful
Dear Bobcat Families,
We have a full and exciting week ahead at Batey. The Book Fair begins this week and will run through May 8. This is always a great opportunity for students to find new books and continue building their love of reading.
This Friday is Walk, Ride, and Roll to School Day. We will meet at David Simpson Park at 8:00 AM and begin walking to school at 8:05 AM. Mr. Rede and I will lead the parade to campus. Students will have the opportunity to earn stickers and Batey Bucks, and we will also have a special Star Wars photo opportunity as we get ready for our May the 4th spirit day.
A reminder that Track Change will take place on Tuesday, May 5. Tuesday will be a minimum day. Please plan accordingly.
I also want to give a special shoutout to Grant Bass, a former Batey Bobcat and current senior at Pleasant Grove High School. Grant helped renew our school garden as part of his Eagle Scout project. I had the opportunity to attend his ceremony this weekend, and it was a proud moment to see a former Bobcat continue to lead and serve his community.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Every day is a great day to be a Bobcat!

Principal, Edna Batey Elementary

On April 2nd, Myra in Ms. Durham’s class was one of our Vice Principals for the Day! She redeemed 50 Batey Bucks for this exciting experience. She worked hard to earn those bucks when school staff noticed her following our Bobcat Pact! Here’s what she had to share after that special day:
What were you most looking forward to about being the vice principal for the day?
I was looking forward to the whole experience. I saw other kids doing it, and it looked really fun. I saved up my Batey Bucks for a long time.
Tell us about your experience! How did it go?
It went well. I liked going into different classes like Kindergarten, Second Grade, and Sixth Grade. I went to the office to meet with Mr. Jones and Mr. Rede. We went out and got radios, and we got to call the yard duties for the team huddle. I passed out Batey Bucks in classrooms, and I gave the most to Kindergarten. I also got business cards to hand out to other students.
Sounds so awesome! What was your favorite part?
My favorite part of the day was visiting classrooms. The little kids were so cute!
What else would you like us to know?
It’s a great time with everyone! It is a really good experience, and it is worth saving up Batey Bucks. I wish I could do it again!

Parents or guardians have the primary responsibility for appropriate standards of dress and grooming. However, as an educational entity, Batey Elementary School has the responsibility to establish and maintain standards of dress and grooming that support a positive, appropriate, and safe learning and teaching environment. These dress expectations align with the dress code for the Pleasant Grove (PG) Region.
The purpose of dress expectations is to facilitate education, not to inhibit any person’s taste in attire or appearance. Students should be clean and neatly dressed in a manner that is appropriate for the school setting, not hazardous to their health and safety, and not disruptive or distracting from the school's educational program. In addition, no articles of clothing, apparel, or school materials, including hats, backpacks, and binders, may have pictures, printing, or writing that is crude, vulgar, profane, sexually suggestive, racially, ethnically, or religiously intolerant, that contain images of weapons, tobacco, drugs, and/or alcohol, or which the school’s administration reasonably predicts will disrupt the learning environment.
Basic Principle: Certain Body Parts Must Be Covered for All Students
Students are required, at a minimum, to have outer clothing that covers and conceals the trunk or torso of their body from armpit level to thigh level at all times. The trunk or torso, including buttocks and chest, must be covered at all times, including when students are sitting, reaching, and/or bending. In addition:
–Straps or sleeves must secure tops with necklines that fall below the armpits.
–The hem of the shirt must cover the rib cage.
– Students must wear shoes at all times. All sandals must have a backstrap for safety purposes.
The school administration may limit or prohibit specific clothing that has been determined by law enforcement or gang experts to be affiliated with an actual gang. In consultation with law enforcement or other gang experts, the school administration may limit clothing or apparel when there is a reasonable basis to identify such clothing or apparel as gang-affiliated. Limitations and prohibitions on gang-related clothing or apparel will be applied equally to all students, and in no instance will a student’s clothing or apparel be identified as gang-related based solely on the student’s race, national origin, or ancestry.
