Prove it to Move it
Materials needed:
- White Board
- Either sticky notes or small magnets (with the ability to write with draw erase markers on)
- Pens or pencils (or dry erase markers if using magnets)
Goals:
- Promotes student agency
- More helpful than assigning the same measures to each student.
- To move enough of the notes over to the "prove it" side to win a prize.
- Students self-assess and write down (on either a sticky note or dry-erase magnet) a few measures they are not currently able to play. At the top of the note is their name, under their name the title of tune and under that, the measures they cannot currently play. The notes are placed on the board on the right hand side (need to be proven area)
- At the start of class (during attendance? As a means of taking attendance?) Students play their 1 or 2 measures from the prove it section of the board. If students "prove it" by playing it correctly, they may move their magnet / sticky note to the left side of the board showing they have proven that they can play it.
- The goal is set by the teacher - if the goal is reached (certain number of sticky notes/magnets that have been moved to the proven area", then students get something they want (pizza party? Candy? Use your imagination)
