From the Minnesota Department of Education:
"Homeschool parents do everything that traditional private school administrators and teachers do but in the context of their home. This means planning what students learn, keeping all records, managing costs and assuring the quality and scope of their student's education for college recruiters and employers. Students graduate from homeschools with homeschool diplomas and homeschool transcripts, just as they would from other private schools."
Please visit the Minnesota Department of Education for the most up to date information.
Minnesota’s Compulsory Instruction statutes, sections 120A.22, 120A.24, and 120A.26, allow parents to create private schools in their home for their children. Like other nonpublic options, these schools are predominately financed by the parents. However, Minnesota does have Nonpublic Pupil Aids that parents may claim by September 15 of each year through their public school district superintendent’s office. Current Rate
Minnesota currently recognizes only one accrediting agency, the Home-Based Educators Accrediting Association, for accrediting homeschools. Homeschools do not need to be accredited. However, one benefit of being accredited is being waived from a requirement for a nationally normed achievement test for each student ages 7-17 each year.
If you choose to homeschool, you must register with your local district by October 1 of every year that you homeschool. If it is your child's first year choose the Initial Registration Form along with all of the other forms listed below. If your child has been homeschooled before, choose the Intent to Continue to Provide Instruction form along with all of the other forms. For requesting supplies, you must use the requisition form and send it to the school or order. No items ordered by anyone other than the school will be reimbursed by the school.
Please complete and return the forms to the Superintendents office by October 1.
