Introduction to Coaching

Course Description: This course is designed for the student who has an interest in sport and in learning the rules and responsibilities needed for coaching sports. Students will explore various aspects of becoming a coach while learning about coaching styles, philosophies, first aid, dealing with athletes and parents as well as the X’s and O’s of the game.
ESSENTIAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Students are able to demonstrate competency in various motor skills and movement patterns.
Students are able to demonstrate knowledge and proper skill techniques while coaching, officiating, lifting weights, playing a sport or doing a movement exercise such as dance.
Students are able to demonstrate knowledge and appropriate safety and spotting techniques in the weight room and or gym setting or other practice settings such as fields or arenas.
Students are able to exhibit responsible personal and social behaviors while respecting self and others.
Students are able to recognize the importance of physical activity to their overall wellness including physical, mental, and emotional health.
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of coaching in written worksheets, quizzes, tests, papers.

93% - 90% = A- Class Participation =40%
89% - 87% = B+ Assignments & Tests =60%
86% - 83% = B
