The choir program at Central Middle School is designed to give students a wide variety of musical experiences. When students participate fully in these experiences they will learn to:
Make music alone & with others
Improvise & compose music
Read the language of music
Become familiar with a variety of musical styles
Develop pride & self-esteem

When all members follow these three expectations, every student will have the best opportunity to achieve their individual goals and help the choir have a fun and successful year.

Voice Lessons
Lessons are an amazing opportunity for small group instruction to help students improve vocal technique and performance skills. Students will be assigned a voice lesson time during enrichment/non-choir days, and I will notify all students and teachers of their lesson times.

Performances/Concerts
A very important part of our performance-based curriculum is the opportunity for students to sing and experience the art of performing. Many techniques and skills learned will be displayed in each concert performance. The concert is an extension of the classroom. Students are required to be at concerts. This is usually the only outside-of-class work that is required. We will perform 3 concerts during the year. If a student cannot attend due to an emergency situation (not including a practice for another activity), a parent/guardian should notify Mrs. Larson as soon as possible or send a note of excuse the following day. Students will be allowed/expected to make-up points for missed performances. `

An important part of our concert performance is how the entire choir looks. The CMS music department has adopted a unified concert dress that will help best present our performing groups, as well as eliminate concerns over “what to wear”. Thank you for your cooperation. Concert Uniform Options
Black polo or dress shirt or black blouse (no revealing necklines)
Black dress slacks
Black knee-length (or longer) skirt or dress
Black dress shoes or clean black sneakers
Black flats (no high heels or flip-flops – ballet slippers are very suitable)
