What English credits do I need to graduate?

All high school students need to earn one credit for each English 9, English 10, English 11, and two half (.5) credits for English 12 by earning a final grade point average of at least a 65 for each class. In order to earn a diploma, students must also pass the NYS Common Core ELA Regents exam in 11th grade. CTAEP students take this exam in January of their junior year. Regents exams are also offered in June and August if students need to make-up or retake the exam. Want more information on the CC ELA exam? Check out the EngageNY website for more information!

Students planning to continue their academic careers by attending a college program should take the SAT exams and may also want to take the ACT exam. These standardized exams provide colleges with a criteria through which to determine if students will likely be successful at their institution. Many colleges and universities require students to take the SAT in order to be accepted into their programs. To register to take an upcoming SAT exam, go to the College Board website. To register for the ACT exam, head to the ACT website.
